MSRP vs Street price of new Win 70 safari 375

Midway isn’t the cheapest on anything anymore. I’d say if you can find a m70 current production in the low to mid 2k’s it’s a fantastic value

    M70 , 1958 375hh value

If that’s all Winchester factory work,..stock and engraving, which it may be, it’s worth more than if an unknown did all the fancy work on it. I’d contact Winchester with the serial number and inquire. Looks like a nice rifle, clearly someone had their sights on Alaska with it.

Serious Safety Concerns for South Africa Hunt

I tend to agree that SA isn’t as bad a as some would make it out to be,….however comparing it or its people to a US city is ridiculous. US cities are some of the safest metropolitan areas in the world IMO. Also, saying you’re with a ph and he’ll take care of you is also nonsensical. Is he...

Want to buy reloading press and dies- Advice needed

Buy the RCBS Supreme, get the rcbs dies and you are good to go. Been using the big RCBS press for many years. You'll need a way to trim cases and prep them, and measure powder (inexpensive digital scale) and you'll be good to go. If you need a list of what I would buy to get started I'd be...

    270 Wby Mag

The 269 weatherby imo is the best round he ever created. Standard action size, extreme speed and flat shooting, for anything up to deer, elk, and any medium size plains game in Africa it’s perfect. Once you get to something 800-1000lbs I’d probably go a little bigger with a heavier bullet.

    All copper bullets

Never had any trouble with Barnes TSX or Solids, been using them for 20 years. It would be great to have more options. I like Hornady's as well, especially now that they are bonded. Swift A Frames would be great but he can't seem to produce bullets. I won't use anything where there is...

Avoiding CTE, brain damage, retina injury etc with big bore rifles ?

Very Simple, if a rifle is beating you up and giving you headaches you need to move down in recoil. I recently went through the same thing. I had a 500 Jeffery I loved but I just couldn't practice and shoot it much. It has been my experience that around 60- ft lbs is about top recoil for me...

Best compact Binocular in $1000.00 price category

Used Leica Trinovid 8x32, there are at least 3 pair at first glance on ebay that are sub $800, even if you have to send them in for clean and re-furb, you are still well ahead when compared to off brands. the big three are where it's at for binos, I've learned my lesson and will never trust...

    Harry Manners 180 pounder

Great book. I enjoyed reading it, is it all true, who knows, it did seem novel like when I read it? If I had to guess I'd say the guy shot a lot of big elephants. Seems like a lot written about Africa in the 20th century may be a bit farcical and had some base in romanticism.

old school Rigby, Wesley Richards barrel

It’s a very classy look, and couldn’t be more solid, the gma 416 rigby I have is never going to leave my possession. It’s one of the first 100, made by Dennis Olson. timeless piece, dreamt of having one ever since I saw the first rifles that they used for pictures on their website 25 or so...

old school Rigby, Wesley Richards barrel

Many of the rifles that were built by Mike Roden of Granite Mountain Arms had this same pattern as well and everything is integral. I think they look fantastic but it's expensive to do.

    Bandolier for 470NE

Murray leather makes the best one IMO, however, the full cull belt has always seemed a little much for the visiting hunter. I get the pageantry of it all, however, I have always felt like a Murray shell holder holding 8-10 rds on a second belt with perhaps a pouch and a small belt knife, is...

Is 5-6 days hunting enough time?

I always do 8-10 full days of hunting, 12 is even better (did that once)I’ve never had the transport days count as hunt days as previously mentioned…make sure you have a day to travel in from the airport, and a day to travel back to the airport.

High end rifles, Rigby review from TGS YouTube

Interesting development in snake anti venom research

Not a fan of snakes, only seen pythons so far, I’d like to keep it that way. There is no doubt Africa holds a lot of things that can kill you, but I’d rather be ripped apart by a lion or stomped out by an elephant rather than get bitten by a mamba or a big cobra.

    Testing 404 Jeffery

That seems like a lot of powder, I've been able to get my 404 with a 24" barrel to 2200-2250 fps with 70-72 grains of either H Varget or IMR 4320,......400 grain bullets. Haven't tried any 350's in my 404. In my 416 rigby however, that's the exact performance I get with 350 grainers, albeit 92...

Reloads in .416 Rigby with used brass will not feed in my Mauser 98E

Here is a very specific problem I had with a really nice mauser 98 375HH I have. The bolt face on the ride side would not pick up the rim of the shell every time, only on the right side of the staggered magazine, It drove me mad , quit using the rifle, which was a shame because its a beauty...

.375H&H Barrel length… what say you?

22-24 is ideal, no loss of performance at all with modern powders. I've gotten 2700fps out of a 22" barrel with 270gr barnes. Long barrels are no good in Africa.

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

Tom---if we really wanted to score a big hit with this crowd, we need to make a Farquharson action true to form of a Gibbs and chamber it in some interesting caliber like this 375 2.5". I'd have one....has anyone ever dissected one of those to see if it could be done?

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

425 westley Richards. It’s a really cool round, and it’s small in stature for the power it renders. I’m surprised blaser hasn’t done it, it fits their r8 platform and would work perfectly with the way that action operates
