    December buffalo hunt Zimbabwe

She took her buffalo in Oct 2015, putting all five rounds into it off sticks. Her impala was taken in Sept 2013. The only time she said she felt any recoil with the '06 was down at the range practising before leaving. At the time she needed to step up and do the work, she didn't even notice it -...

    December buffalo hunt Zimbabwe

Oh no, no, no! All jesting done is in the spirit of good fun only! My daughter is 22yo. A petite little thing at 45kg wringing wet in hunting boots! But she can certainly look after herself. Check out my photos - she used my .30/06 to drop her water buffalo.

    Namibia and a 30-06....Which bullet?

Woodleigh Bullets perform beautifully as long as you don't push them any faster than the velocities for which they are designed. Woodleigh are very clear on this point. I've used the 180gr PSP on PG and they've performed beautifully every time. If I were you, I'd stick to what I've used and know...

    December buffalo hunt Zimbabwe

Yea Gods! I'm rolling about laughing with visions of us two hobbling about, accompanied by the click-clack of us fighting with walking sticks: "It's MY trophy!", "No! It's MINE!", "Well then I hope you trip!" "Yeah? Well I gave your scope's windage turret a BIG turn when you weren't looking!"...

Thanks for the tip. When I'm up and mobile I'll look into it: I know a nice spot that way for a deer as well. I prefer the single malts over blended. (y)

    December buffalo hunt Zimbabwe

Thanks Geoff! I'm getting stick from everyone here, like: "C'mon mate! Hop to it!" - which I can't even do at present!! You're on mate! When I come back from my hunt next year I'll drop around and tell you all about it over those beers! (y)

I think by the sounds of things it'll probably get a hammering over the next few seasons. Good luck to those who go! I'm aiming for a late buff hunt in the area next year (pun intended!).

    December buffalo hunt Zimbabwe

Glad all was ok. This is one of the things that draws me to Africa time and time again - the unexpected!! Here in our countries everything is pretty much predictable and organised: shedules, deadlines and life in general. But Africa's a whole different story! There you are definitely out of...

Jesus!! Is that a Landy or a dinghy?? Better mount an outboard on the tail gate!! In the days of steam and wind-jamming ships you could give the order: "Disengage engine and up sail!" - I bet these guys would want to give that one a go!!

    December buffalo hunt Zimbabwe

Hi all, I really appreciate everybody's advice and support in this venture. Unfortunately I've since split my foot open, and now due to plastic surgery have had to cancel. To say I'm BLOODY ANNOYED is an understatement!!! The PH is ok with cancellation as I hope to go with him next year...

Is this the ultimate .404 Jeffery?

I'm not clear on the laws myself, but as Zim is a communist country - with a history of the civil population overthrowing the (then) white-led government by armed conflict - I suppose the ZANU-PF as the ruling governing body don't want the same thing done to them! So, if you don't have a current...

The BEST two weeks of MY LIFE!!!

Absolutely!! Throughout my shift I'd suffer clinically observable bouts of intermittent postural hypotension!! Always wondered why I got dizzy post wound care and CWMS obs!! I'd end up as disoriented as a blowfly banging around the walls on hot afternoon!! Thank God the ward corridor was...

The BEST two weeks of MY LIFE!!!

Lets just say that after 15yrs (medical, surgical and mainly down at the deep end of psychiatric nursing) those memories are so clear, I can recall it all as if it were yesterday!

The BEST two weeks of MY LIFE!!!

This isn't related to hunting, but it's nevertheless perfectly true of what happened to me. As part of my training as a surgical nursing student I was regularly posted away on practicum out to various hospitals to consolidate my theoretical training. In this particular instance I was detailed...

@gizmo I know what you mean! For years my kids heard "Dad telling another hunting story!" while rolling their eyes! So I started taking them hunting with me - now they love it - and especially Africa! Was very proud watching my daughter with my .30/06 over her shoulder tracking after water...

Hi all! So far I've been very lucky to have done 4 hunts to Africa, 2 with my (then) girlfriend, 1 with my wife and two teenage kids, and the last 1 on my own. From my experience I found them all enjoyable for different reasons - though the family one, being a first for them, had me fretting...

    HUNTING Wildebeest

Yes they are! To finish the story in my case, after checking for any eye reflex the tracker ran all the way back to camp to get the PH. My girlfriend later said all hell broke loose in camp when he got back! I think the PH thought I would go and find something innocuous to bag!! Anyway he drove...

    HUNTING Wildebeest

I agree! I got mine with my .30/06. The PH let me take a tracker for the afternoon and "go find something to shoot!" We did. A nice blue wildebeest. After an exciting hunt and chase - during which I got in 2 broadside shots - one behind each shoulder - this wildebeest angrily stopped running and...

Purely FYI as an addendum, at the time I asked PHASA - as the industry's regulating body - if they do anything to stop/police against bogus "PHs" scammimg clients, since this would seriously damage SA's reputation. Their response was basically they don't do anything at all. I found their apathy...
