    465 H&H brass

Pretty sure this is brass made by BELL for H&H back in the '80s. The loaded ammo came in brown plastic boxes of ten.

    Holland & Holland 500/465

Super rifle! I think I like the non-bolstered action Royals like this one over the later style but is it a bit unusual for a 1929 rifle to use this action? I wonder how H&H decided which action to use...

Berdan prime Kynoch .577 nitro brass 3" new old stock

I agree 100% This is more in line with what Berdan primed brass is worth: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1097724984 I'm not afraid of Berdan primed brass but only because I have hundreds of different sized berdan primers and have dealt with reloading old Kynoch for years. It's just not worth...

    Anyone recognize this action?

Often, those no-name Mausers are the best deals - this among them! I'd buy it just for the stock let alone the barreled action - I think it's a steal.

Want To Buy 10.75x68 347gr Woodleighs and Bertram brass

I’m talking original Oberndorf Mausers. I suppose there could be differing dimensions/twist rates from other builders. I make my 10.75 bullets from spent 40S&W brass. It’s not that difficult to make usable projectiles that way.

Want To Buy 10.75x68 347gr Woodleighs and Bertram brass

The Mauser 10.75s had the same rifling rate of twist as the 404s so you’re really not bound to the original bullet weight of the 10.75x68

    404 Jeffrey Brass

Wrong. The shoulder is sized in relation to the base/rim, not the mouth. The length of the case has zero bearing on where the shoulder is set.
  13. Huvius

    404 Jeffrey Brass

It doesn’t. The 404 has a long neck and headspaces off the shoulder so no worries in that regard.
  14. Huvius

    404 Jeffrey Brass

Nope. Berdan have two small flash holes as Boxer have the larger central flash hole. Would also need the Berdan primers, which I have, to reprime them.
  15. Huvius

    404 Jeffrey Brass

If you're not put off by Berdan primers, I have about 75pcs of primed Kynoch brass. I used these cases in my William Evans 404. The fired brass I deprimed with water and a plunger - outside of course. Just lathed out an aluminum plunger with an Oring and a base that the brass sits in - drilled...

    Dreaming of a Double Rifle...

I think the double rifle, or at least the acquisition of a double rifle, is 100% about nostalgia. A good DG bolt gun is almost certainly a better choice for a client than a double. That said, I still pine for a good vintage DG double - something like a screw grip Webley 470 or ultimately a...

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

True, sort of. Sportsmen could still bring in something like 200 rounds for safari. The gunmakers were the ones that really caught on introducing the myriad “legal” replacements the 470 becoming the industry standard.

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

If you’re thinking of building a bolt rifle in 303, and in keeping with your handle, you could do worse than starting with a Siamese Mauser.

Bob, great to see you over here at AH! I remember well when you bought that rifle and am still green... It was a stroke of genius to cover the "I Married Adventure" book in zebra print. What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

Nothing at all wrong with the 9X57! In the period ammunition catalogs, the 9mm was something like 5grs less bullet and a couple hundred FPS off the 318WR and we all know it killed everything like greased lightning!! I was told by a well known gunmaker that the 9X57 Mauser was the preferred...

It is much like the one in either Winfer's or Kirton's book. I think at the time I got it from Mark Crudgington, he didn't really want it published so I just emailed him to see if he's OK with my sharing it. The only ledger book that survived the Blitz has just the last ten or so Gibbs...

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

9.5X57 or 375 Rimless Nitro Express for sure. 35 Winchester too. The 350 Griffin & Howe deserves a comeback too. Of all the ‘35s I think the 35 Newton was way before it’s time and today would be called the 35 Ruger. That is a fantastic cartridge!

I’ll throw this little tidbit out here which has me scratching my head. Well, when I shot the...

Reloading can be dangerous and scary if you don't do it right

Why would QL give such differing powder weights for the Hornady (37gr) and the Woodleigh (34.5gr) when they are the same weight and almost the same ogive/nose profile?

    Small ring mauser

I believe there were two versions of the Mexican Mauser. IIRC, the first few thousand (1902) were made by DWM and have a Mauser 98 bolt shroud and flag safety. That was carried over to the 1910 Mexican Mauser. The later contract run (1936) have a Springfield style bolt knob/safety. I'm not sure...

They are definitely filed down to the metal as they are smooth with the contours of the plates. I think that you are correct in the notion of fitting with tall heads, indexing for a new slot, taking down the head and cutting new slots. Then, these newly slotted screws were filed down flush with...

Single Shot Saturday - Show us your Single Shots!

Correct. Much of the scouting and hunting was done on horseback and it was common for a fall or drop from a horse to result in a broken stock. Back then, that pretty much put the rifle out of commission entirely. I believe that Selous himself had a stock on a muzzle loader break through the...

Single Shot Saturday - Show us your Single Shots!

The plates were offered on George Gibbs Farquharson rifles and it is believed that maybe 50 or so were sold with the plates. Some say as low as 20 but I have seen rifles fit with them enough to guess it's double or more than that many. The metal (malleable iron I believe) is formed to the...

Wanted 450 NE brass, dies and shell holders

Before I got a rock chucker, I used the 450-400 shell holder with a feeler gauge under the case. The thin rim shell holder I have is one of the old wide RCBS ones that are too big in diameter to work on the Spartan press I had before the RC2

  46. Huvius

    475 No2, how usable?

As usable as any other 450 to 500 class cartridge. Will kill as well as any of them - that is if you can source components which is not easy these days. I'd suspect it will need .483" bullets.
