the problem i see with a 45-70 double (i had one) is there are like 4 different power levels to load it to, which one does the hunter get it regulated to? whereas the 450-400 is regulated to a 2100-2150 fps 400 gr load all the time. i too would vote for the 450-400

i think you have an awful lot of moving parts going on with what you are wanting to do. i would suggest you use a good 300 gr bullet (swift A frame, north fork, etc) and know the bullet trajectory and shoot everything with that bullet. (maybe bring a few solids 300 gr.) you would be well...

still calls for 50:1 and their premix is 50:1. do you think they your saws burn up at the 50:1? just curious, i have had great luck with 50:1 mix with my stihls, am i missing something

browning t bolt is a possible contender. my t bolt in 17 hmr is extremely accurate, and is a joy to shoot. i suspect the 22's are the same.

without porting it, west coast saws makes aftermarket air filters (breathes better) and a "bark box" that is supposed to make 6-10% more power. it is also louder (i have both on the way). by the way, the stihl dealer threw in a "free" hat with the saw, only had to spend $1450 to get a free...

hmmm, it seems to me, this comparison/disagreement is much like comparing the 300 H&H to the 300 winchester. the 300 win is a cartridge that is shorter, maybe a touch faster than a cartridge that came before it.(H&H). the same arguments could be applied to the 300 debate that is now raging on...

for what its worth i have shot 4 brown bears with it. works pretty good on them, but, 200 yards is a pretty long poke at any brown bear with any rifle.

i bought 3 boxes for my 300 win. have not shot anything with that rifle yet, but they look like a fantastic bullet (200 gr). i agree that the penetration should be excellent, and still make a nice wound channel. i think they are a good choice for factory ammo.
