Any Appetite for a New <$10K Double?

the problem i see with a 45-70 double (i had one) is there are like 4 different power levels to load it to, which one does the hunter get it regulated to? whereas the 450-400 is regulated to a 2100-2150 fps 400 gr load all the time. i too would vote for the 450-400

Suggestions on taking Smoked Salmon to SA

if you smoke the salmon, it will be fine, especially if it starts out frozen. smoked fish is salted and smoke as a method of curing to keep longer than fresh fish. regarding the legality, i had vacuum packed biltong confiscated coming back into the US. (i was a bitter american). soooo, might...

Want To Buy Federal 458 Win Nickel Plated Brass

hey guys, i have been unable to find these on line, figured somebody might have some laying around they are not going to reload. i prefer the nickel plated brass since it does not corrode much in the terrible conditions that i hunt brown bears up here. every day getting wet with rain or sea...

    450/400 3"

i have shot exactly ONE cape buffalo, it is the bull in my avatar, and it was with a zoli 450-400. it did a great job and i am a fan! have shot wildebeest, moose with it, was effective every time that 400 grain bullet hit meat. recoil is not bad, my rifle is accurate and the instant second...

i was visiting with a canadian financial adviser this last week and he was upset at trump too. (which i don't blame him for) he raged a little about how awful he was. i asked him one question, why don't BOTH of our countries just drop ALL tariffs then? he did not have an answer.

    9,3x74R on Elephant

for what its worth, harry manners and wally johnson both shot a lot of elephants with a 375, and lived into old age. using on an elephant, i don't suspect there is a noticeable difference between a 9.3 x 62/74 and the 375.

i would say, maybe, maybe not. i worked in the electronics field for 20 years prior to y2k, and a couple years after. it was mostly a big shrug for my company and all my compadres in the military thought that it was a similar thing (a lot of fuss over not much). because i spent a bit of time...

    450/400 3" question

@sgt_zim, for what its worth, my bit of experience with my 450-400. mine is an o/u zoli, it has 25.5" barrels i think. mine is regulated to hornady dgx, it likes 2100 fps. i shot a cape buffalo, twice, about 35 yards, broke his shoulder and hip, (ph shot before he went into a gorge, but he...

it did, also got it to about 10 1/4 pounds, which is about where you want a 458 rifle to weigh.

Opinions on the Interarms mark x 458wm

i say buy it now. I have an interterms 458 with what sounds like the exact same stock on it, i love mine. i did put 14-16 oz of lead in the but stock. i shot expanding foam in it, then bored a hole in it and placed some lead in it. $950 sounds more than fair to me.

    .375 Ruger POI shift 270gr vs 300gr

i think you have an awful lot of moving parts going on with what you are wanting to do. i would suggest you use a good 300 gr bullet (swift A frame, north fork, etc) and know the bullet trajectory and shoot everything with that bullet. (maybe bring a few solids 300 gr.) you would be well...

Recommendations on what bullet to use on a Nile Crocodile?

i think a nosler partition or a north fork PP (percussion point) if you want a bullet that will expand quickly and still maintain its weight for penetration.

without porting it, west coast saws makes aftermarket air filters (breathes better) and a "bark box" that is supposed to make 6-10% more power. it is also louder (i have both on the way). by the way, the stihl dealer threw in a "free" hat with the saw, only had to spend $1450 to get a free...

450 NE 3 1/4 stick to factory or load for it

@robertstuart depends on availability of either. if you have good bullets and available brass, powder, etc. and the skills to handload, then i would roll my own bullets. however, if you don't wand the best for your rifle, then the factory loads will do. you can handload some very good...

    Opinions please: Pros/Cons of .375 Ruger vs .375 H&H

hmmm, it seems to me, this comparison/disagreement is much like comparing the 300 H&H to the 300 winchester. the 300 win is a cartridge that is shorter, maybe a touch faster than a cartridge that came before it.(H&H). the same arguments could be applied to the 300 debate that is now raging on...

Any love for the federal terminal ascent?

i bought 3 boxes for my 300 win. have not shot anything with that rifle yet, but they look like a fantastic bullet (200 gr). i agree that the penetration should be excellent, and still make a nice wound channel. i think they are a good choice for factory ammo.
