    P14 DG rifles

....not so much a reply as a question.... I have been building a P14 in 9.3x74R and have made a replacement mag box that is 95mm long, metal has been removed from the action back towards the trigger area ( Timney replacement trigger ) to fit this box...remembering that being a rimmed cartridge...

    Custom knife

As a leatherworker, it always amazes me how knife makers put these beautiful and often very expensive custom knives into a cheap and nasty sheath....doesn't that sort of quality deserve better ? Roger

Safety preference - 3 position or tang safety

All of my 98's have the aftermarket FN style safety on the left hand side so that I can push it down...off safe..with my thumb as I grip the stock....right hand ones seem awkward to me. Roger

    P14 DG rifles

Small bit of information for Ontario Hunter....the reason the British Enfields were so fast to fire was because of the 60 degree bolt lift......check out " the mad minute. " Roger

Which 7mm cartridge is the "best" poll?

All very interesting.....but I'll stick to my oddballs.....7x57R in a No.1 Mk 4 Enfield, 7-30 Waters in a Cadet and my Arisaka actioned 284. Roger

Siamese Mauser or P14 action for 450/400

Lots of rimmed cartridges have been fitted to bolt actions, the 788 Remingtons for example...44 Mag, 30-30, etc. I have built a 9.3x74R on a P14, originally for the rimmed 303 British. Finn has a 9.x74R in a slant box Rigby....I think its more a matter of preference than anything... Roger

Siamese Mauser or P14 action for 450/400

Siamese actions are pretty much limited to 75mm / 3" overall length rimmed cartridges. If your interest is the 416/348 ( or 416 WSM ) check out Blueflyer's posts... Roger

    Enfield SMLE.

The 375 x 2 1/2" Flanged Nitro Express, to give it's full name, is not actually a 303 blown out to 375, it is actually a straight walled case about 1/4" longer than a 303 and about 30% more powerful. From what information I can find it was developed by Holland and Holland before their 375 H&H...
