I Confess: I Love Tikka Rifles...

I have chimed in on several different posts on here about my experience with Tikka. I only have one, a T3X Super Lite in 243 Win. I worked up a load using the Barnes 80 gr TTSX bullet and it quickly became one of my favorite rifles to shoot and hunt with. Highly accurate out of the box and is...

    Prayer Request

I am sorry to hear this and will pray for Darren at daily mass this morning.

Will reloading disapear with the new too lazy to do it generation

I have been an avid reloader since the late 1970’s when I got into in high school. Back then we would go out and shoot hundreds of rounds hunting prairie dogs. The sod poodles were everywhere in those days. It made sense economically to reload and while I don’t shoot as much today, I have more...

Thoughts on Cape Buffalo under 40"

I had my taxidermy done in SA by Splitting Image Taxidermy and they had this pedestal mount as an option. It is very unique for sure and that marble base probably weighs 275 lbs, very heavy.

Thoughts on Cape Buffalo under 40"

I “think” my PH told me my Buffalo was 38 inches. May be 36 for all I know but I never measured it and don’t really care. The experience was the important thing for me. What I did like about him is that he has huge bosses. Enjoy the journey and the hunt and leave the tape measures to the porn...

What knife are you carrying everyday right now?

Cool knives on here! If I carried ever knife I have that I love, there would be no room on my belt or in my pockets. I guess I did not realize how much I liked knives until I started going through them. Damn, I need to live 60 more years to be able to use all of them! LOL

What knife are you carrying everyday right now?

Leatherman Rev is carried every day and when I want to go fancy I carry a William Henry folding Damascus. Oh, I also carry a small Swiss Army knife in my pocket, you know, the one that has tweezers, toothpick, folding blade and folding scissors?!?! LOL

    Cartridges you just hate

I have this configuration in 243 Win and mated it with a load I worked up using the Barnes 80 gr TTSX. It is one of my favorite rifles and 1/2 MOA with my load out of the box. I think for the money, these Tikka's are the best value on the market.

    375hh 250-270g bullet load

Barnes has all of their load data on their website. That is where I would start if you are going to load one of their bullets.

    375 H&H loads

I load 67 gr of RL 15 and Barnes 300 gr TSX's which are chronographed at 2475 fps here at my home in central Wyoming. If and when I run out of the powder I will try some H4350. But for now, I cannot argue with cloverleafing 3 shot groups at 100 yards and the velocity is the absolute sweet spot...

Is this a crazy idea? - Anyone interested in an observer to accompany you on an Elephant or Leopard hunt?

I actually believe your idea is a good one and I have thought about this before. As a hunter and avid wildlife photographer, on my trips to Africa I found it difficult to photograph and hunt at the same time. Because of those experiences, I too have thought about going as an observer just to...

    Lever Guns and Plains Game

I have a Marlin 1895 SBL in 45-70 that I would not hesitate to take to Africa on a PG hunt and with the right load workup, would hunt Buffalo with it as well. Mine is scoped with a Leupold VX-R 2-7 with the Firedot reticle. It has a lot of eye relief and is a great scope for this rifle. I have...

    Retired - Now What?

I retired from a very stressful corporate career at 62 about a year and a half ago. I can tell you that having hobbies and something to get you out of bed and off the couch is very important. It was difficult for me at first going from 100 mph to 0 mph overnight. I thought about going back and...

What's your favorite cartridge for hunting Africa? Up to 2 choices.

When I sent to Africa to hunt Cape Buffalo and Crocodile I bought a 375 H&H specifically for that trip. Prior to that for all plains game I use my 7mm RUM.

Favorite Bullet Manufacturer for Non-Dangerous Game Poll

You know, I cannot answer that but what you are saying makes sense. What I do know is that I have always, with new rifles, put rounds down the pipe and then only cleaned initially with a bore snake and a little Hoppes #9 rather than deep cleaning with copper fouling remover. The reason I do...
