    African Huntin Boots

For me, the type of terrain is going to dictate my boot. On a plains game safari where the terrain was most sandy soil and softer dirt, I wore Merrell mid hikers. They are pretty popular here in the US as an all around hiking boot with a fairly soft sole. For my hunt last August I was after...

ttsx in 375 caliber - i see nothing above 250 grains

I wish I had at least the pictures of the two bullets we took out of my Buffalo from this past August. Unfortunately, security in Joberg confiscated them. Long story I won’t go into here. Anyway, they were Barnes 300 gr TSX hand loads that I worked up using RL15 powder. The muzzle velocity on...

    Back country carry gun

I live in Wyoming where we have high numbers of grizzlies in certain parts of the state. I also hunt, camp and recreate in those areas and while there I carry a Glock 29 with an extended mag and it rides in a Kenai chest holster. I load it with Underwood extreme performance ammunition. It works...

Travel to RSA on United Airlines ammo question

Exactly. Nice thing about these cases is you can take out foam layers to adjust to what you want to carry besides just your ammo. I use mine at home a lot as well for when I go out hunting and will even put my pistol etc in it and throw it in my kayak when I go out fishing since it is...

Travel to RSA on United Airlines ammo question

Here is what I do. 40 rounds of 375 H&H in a SKB waterproof case. I have not weighed the case but my guess it is well shy of 2 pounds. If needed I could take another layer of foam out and put in more ammo, knife, binos etc. This is all you need to do. Lock it up, put it in your checked baggage...

    7mm Rem Mag

When I first went to Africa on a plains game hunt I had heard from many sources including my outfitter to use a 180 gr bullet. I was planning on using my Rem 700 in 7mm RUM. It has a 9.5 twist barrel. Wanting to use Barnes bullets, I called Barnes and spoke to their technical people and was told...

Travel to RSA on United Airlines ammo question

The only reason I picked up some empty factory boxes from Barnes is because I had a CBP officer tell me some airlines will be sticklers about ammo being in original boxes. Rather than give them any reason to be unreasonable, I just took that option away. Geez, on my way back last August when...

Travel to RSA on United Airlines ammo question

I reload so I did not have factory boxes. I called Barnes and asked them if they would send me a few empty factory boxes for 375 H&H 300 gr TSX and they gladly did so. I put my reloads in the factory boxes and then put those in my lockable ammo case. Easy to do with no questions asked.

Muzzle up in my Liberty safe. Regarding oil seeping into the wood, I don’t give my guns an oil bath. I will put a little oil in the needed places and then a very light coat using one of those gun oil wipes and then wipe off any kind of excess. I live in a very dry climate so I don’t have to...

Loading .375H&H for DG: Is fastest best or is there an ideal FPS to strive for?

Loading .375H&H for DG: Is fastest best or is there an ideal FPS to strive for?

It is also interesting that in using the older Barnes load data, which is what I use, and comparing it to the latest data they have published for the 375 H&H, there is a pretty significant difference in what they show for the 300 gr using RL15. In their current data, while they still highly...

    7mm Rem Mag

Loading .375H&H for DG: Is fastest best or is there an ideal FPS to strive for?

I worked up a load for my 375 H&H using the Barnes 300 gr TSX and 67 gr of RL15. It chronographs at 2475fps here at my elevation of just under 6000 feet in elevation. It is extremely accurate in my Win Model 70. Funny thing is if you look at the Barnes loading data, 67 gr of RL15 is on the...

Any place to hunt goats in USA

Is Aoudad a goat? I don’t think so, it is a sheep and that is the only free range Goat/Sheep I know of in Texas. Bow hunted a number of different species during the years I lived in Texas and it was all high fence. I may be wrong but I don’t think so.

    Bipod practice? (Sticks)

In my experience, what makes it pretty simple to shoot off sticks is in your form. Slightly crouched and not standing straight up, if a righty, feet at 10 and 4 or maybe 11 and 6, lean into the bipod just like you would on a bench, put the fore end of your rifle stock into the crevice of the...

    Bipod practice? (Sticks)

Shooting off tripod sticks which has been the standard for years is a lot easier to move around and readjust than the quad sticks in my opinion. While the quad sticks are very solid once you are set up (more like shooting off a bench standing up), if you have to move or reposition you better...
