    Hercules Safaris

@Brewster6514 We also "won" his raffle last March. We went on our trip in Sept. He has a very nice lodge and we had a great time. I am a bowhunter and I shot 6 very nice animals. I got 2 zebras with one arrow! Ask him to show you the video. I shot one zebra and when they turned to run the...

    Bow Blind Setup

Make sure the blind can accommodate recurve and long bows.

    Johannesburg Warning

My PH from last year's trip has a picture of 2 bullet holes in his vehicle that happened on his way home from the airport last month. He carries a large handgun and when they followed him and his wife into the driveway he shot back. The robbers fled.

Any Surprises While On Safari In Africa?

We had one of those try to get into the blind with the wife and I. All I had was a bow. There was no PH with us. I poked it with an arrow and then chased it. Boy are they fast!

Options for keeping in touch with home?

Our last safari camp didn't have wifi. It was in the northwest province. There was no tv and spotty cell service.

Just over 100 Days for 1st Africa trip and this ...

Actually your medical insurance may sue grandma's home owners insurance. I fell out of a tree stand on my buddy's property. My medical insurance tried to go after his home owner's insurance to recover their pay outs. Fortunately here in Ohio landowners are protected from this if the hunter has...

    Converter and Adapter - RSA?

Not necessarily. My wife forgot to turn the switch on her hair dryer that converts it. She plugged it in and it shorted out. I turned the switch, plugged it back in and it worked just fine. In fact it is still working. You just have to remember to turn the switch. Most hair dryers have that...

    Cash & Airports

I would never put cash in anything that is checked (not carried on). Too much risk of it being stolen. What if your gun case goes missing?

    Converter and Adapter - RSA?

My wife bought a curling iron that automatically converts itself from Amazon last year. Our camera battery says to NOT use a converter.

July Safari is almost here! Last min tips please!

Take some Rands. They came in handy at the airport and at our hotel. The bar wouldn't take dollars. If you belong to AAA, there is no charge for them and they will buy back any you don't use. We had a hunter in camp who had a hard time converting rands to dollars and didn't know what he was...

    After the shot?

My safari was last Aug. 2016. My trophies were shipped to the US in Feb.17. It took 2 weeks for them to get to my taxidermist for some reason. I think because they landed in NY (by SAA airlines) and then were shipped to Chicago for clearing (by truck) and then back to Ohio. My taxidermist then...

    Transporting bow requirements

I had to open my case for the ticketing agent (delta) to prove it was a bow. No TSA involved. I locked it with tsa locks coming and going.

    Delta 200 dates

Or you can do what I did. I saw a guy reading a bow hunter magazine so I proceeded to ask if he was going on safari. It turns out he was going to the same camp as us! We'll be flying through ATL on Sept. 3 and returning on Sept 16.

    Delta seat change

I had a similar situation to @Hogpatrol I had 2 bear hides shipped from Canada several years ago on Delta. When I picked them up at the airport I asked "Don't these have to go through customs?" The lady said no they've already been through Customs. There were no stickers or any paper work to...

Has your PH ever sent you out without him?

We liked being by ourselves in the blind. The only thing that I regret is that I took a smaller kudu than I wanted because it was the only one that came in. Later on the PH told me they would have allowed me to shoot a bigger one with a rifle. It was a bow hunting concession only so I didn't...
