Do you prefer a short blade or long fixed blade knife?

I really don't think there is one knife that does everything perfectly, it would take 2-3, and then opinions vary widely. DesertDog on Youtube has a great video on the evolution of silliness in regard to bushcrafting/hunting knives for everything. If I had to pick one knife and that's all I...

WHAT TO CARRY ONCE YOU LEAVE THE VEHICLE

On my belt, ammo carrier (8 rds) front, binos in eberlestock pouch left side, in the pockets of that pouch, ear plugs, chapstick, eye drops. A second small pouch contains hydration supplement, small 1 cell surefire handheld or headlamp. Right side of belt some sort of knife…depends what I feel...

Quick Release / Quick Disconnect Scope Mounts - Do You Use Them?

Outdoor connection contains bolt, maxpedition case has optic, bob allen case has rifle. The hard case is a boyt single rifle hard case no wheels. It has steel latches and the best locks locations in imo of all of them. I leave the foam on top part of case. I have done 4 safaris like this...

Quick Release / Quick Disconnect Scope Mounts - Do You Use Them?

Take them off and put them in their own soft case (maxpedition) and put in with rifle in hard case. I travel without the foam in the hard case and travel with rifle in soft case inside. Along with my shooting sticks.

Where are the best places to track Eland?

They can really mill about and cover a lot of ground, lots of walking, super fun, and don't be afraid to use a large rifle. One of my big bulls took a 416 rigby 350gr Barnes solid, took a few ribs and the offside shoulder bone and did not exit. They are big, tough critters. Poke a big enough...

Where are the best places to track Eland?

I have had two incredible Eland hunts on foot tracking. Zimbabwe and Mozambique, both free range in huge areas. It's a great hunt, one of my favorites. Both hunts Makore Safaris, one with Gary in Zim, the other with Doug from Moz.

    Spotting scopes for the range?

There is a 30x60 zeiss rubber armored short fat tube spotter for sale on ebay right now that would be the best $550 you ever spent. I have one of its cousins a rubber armored18-40 that I bought 15 years ago and I've never felt like I've needed anything else. I had one of these 30x ones a long...

    Separated From Ammo

Happened 1 out of 5 safaris. Could have been a nightmare, took a 500 Jeffery,...luckily Safari Outfitters in Joburg had 3 boxes of Norma 500 J softs on the counter, saved my safari. On returning from my trip I actually called and spoke with the manager of the store after we returned home...

    Case head separation?

Toss all of it. Make sure to check your chamber and make sure it did not get gas checked….that happened to a 338 win mag I had with 3 case head separations….it can ruin a chamber and requires new barrel. It will essentially cause a uneven gap between brass wall and chamber wall, may go a few...

How to do the tough hunts into your 80's

Everyone ages differently and your genes are your genes, you don’t get to choose. Diet and exercise are simply the most important. Healthy relationships and low chaos in your daily life goes a long way to keep a guy going. Choices get complicated at some point, I love food, I love having a...

What's the riskiest stunt you've ever pulled?

Went on a downhill mountain bike trip when I was in my early 50’s to trestle bike park, winter park Colorado with the commitment that we were to ride all the blue and single black diamonds tracks we could in 2 weeks……I had an equipment failure——my body. Back in my early days of big game...

Holland & Holland launches its Take Down Rifle

Ah Canada. I once loved coming up there and hunting to my hearts content in the 90's. Really enjoyed the islands off both coasts. Best black bear hunting I've ever experienced on the Queen Charlotte Islands,.....don't even think they are called that anymore. Sounds like you have a lot of...

Holland & Holland launches its Take Down Rifle

There is a lot to unpack here brother, it was interesting to read, and can't say I disagree with a good chunk of it. Where are you from?

Holland & Holland launches its Take Down Rifle

It just always shocks me how expensive these British guns are, but hats off to their innovation and quality. I like the slanted magazine design, that’s somewhat brilliant, I’d like to have a closer look at the mag spring, gotta be something quite interesting
