I think renting is all about avoiding hauling your rifle. Some wear and tear running through the bush but dropping it....that's on you. Should offer to buy another
At first I used a SA taxidermist for my Euro mounts but found they over bleached them and made them brittle. Subsequently I found a taxidermist that specializes in skull mounts. Much better quality.
If you're properly prepared you'll use the new rifles a few times a week for months leading up to your safari. Then when the moment of truth comes, you'll have one less thing to worry about.
You could of course buy one of the many used rifles on this forum and then re-sale it when you return...
Other than all the reasons mentioned why a tactical scope isn’t the right equipment for Africa, there’s just the mass of it. You most likely will find yourself in the thickest bush that you’ve ever hunted in. Low profile makes a difference in those conditions
