I'm getting my Buff's hide tanned and making a few gun cases with it. I prefer wool Sherpa liner (absorbs moisture and is durable) This isn't available and my choices are: soft suede, fleece or canvass. Any recommendations for rifle and shotgun bags? Keep in mind that I live and hunt in Ohio...
The hunt was wonderful, I posted a review in the “hunting reports “ section. One thing I should have mentioned is that I traveled internationally for work over 25 years. That’s what gave me confidence booking my own travel
Yeah, it was unseasonably warm. I saw this when checking the forecast prior to departure and adjusted my clothing. I didn’t need binos for 2/3 of my hunting but did towards the end. They were a must have for Kruger
My PH said the same. Only two stops worked us for bribes. Unfortunately for them my PH’s uncle is a 20 year police veteran. Evidently these two crews had been targeted trucks with outfitter decals on them. They ran a sting a few days later and busted them
Hi- just returned from my first safari, thought I’d share a few lessons learned
- rifle permit through Henrys Rifle was worth it
- booked flights on my own without issues. If you have a connection in the US on your return , you have to get your bags, and rifle. Then go through customs and...
Just returned from 9 days with Magnus Crossberg of Ranchero Safari. My first safari and target species were Buffalo, Kudu and Sable. First thanks to all the members and moderators for the great guidance. This helped with my preparation, travel and hunt. I’ll put up something on lessons learned...
Rifle is Kimber 375 h&h Model 8400 Caprivi with Leupold 1.5 x 5 on top. Ammo is Barnes TSX 300 grain. Sighted in 1” high at 100 leaves me 4” low at 200 yards. Primary game is Cape Buff and Sable & Kudu afterwards.
I’ve been practicing a couple times a week off sticks, weather permitting, since February. As I’m 10 days from departure a decided to check the zero of my 375 off a rest at 100 yards. A couple clicks right is all I needed
I’ve been using their gear for several years. Haven’t taken it to Africa but it withstands the abuse I put it through guiding and for my own hunting in the US. Its what I’m taking to Africa this April
My experience is that you don’t damage your weapons from using them if you care for them. Meaning clean them after each hunt and care for them during transport. Use your Browning, it’ll mean more to you in the end
I fly with various weapons in the US several times per year and outside the US occasionally. I always read the TSA (or corresponding branch of the country I’m traveling to) and airlines regulations myself. I’ve found the regs to be straightforward. I then keep checking on them for changes to the...
Heard from my guide- with the amount of rain this year the bushveld is exceptionally think, zero at 100 yards as most likely that’ll be my max. And you want precision to “thread the needle”. But know your distance and drop to 200.
I’m hunting the last two weeks of April in Limpopo. Targeting Buffalo and then Sable and Kudu. I know what to expect for Buff but what’s your experience in average shot distance for plains games that time of year in Limpopo?
Hi-I’m in Limpopo the end of April. A couple items I was to bring are some of my Kuiu gear and debating between Valo or Verde. Any suggestions for that time of year and location?
I shot competitively as a youth and in the marines too. I think most the responses are missing the question as to “How do the fundamentals of marksmanship and competition techniques enable your shooting of dangerous game rifles?” For me it’s knowing the level and type of practice needed to be...
If it was me I’d want to know. Even if I’d paid my deposit, with this insight I’d be more cautious. Otherwise I may be over trusting(normal for most of us)and get screwed.
Folks- I’m hunt SA for the first time this spring; buffalo, kudu and sable. I’m only considering a shoulder mount for one, doing European mount for the others. Ruling out the Buffalo due to space. Interested in opinions for the kudu and sable
Hi- Im hunting in SA in April. Debating on best process (easiest and cost effective) for my trophies. I’m i interested in hearing the pros and cons of getting trophies mounted in country vs dipped and shipped
