We refer to costal bears as those in any of the 9 counties from the Virginia to South Carolina line. The 880 pounder was killed “down east”, (the Eastern Part of the state) in the Coastal Plain but not in a coastal county.

I've never see color phase bears and the color phase chart post by @Green Chile was interesting. By the way the 3 largest kills here in NC were 880#, 784#, 782#. Largest bow kill was 780#. These were all coastal bears but not all in Hyde. Our mountains have some bruisers too, I think 695#...

yep, that rifle had a tour of the eastern US...from Texas to Washington DC and some places in between.....the shipper mishandled/lost it.....it arrived in perfect order. Sometimes ya just gotta be patient

Please give me a bit of education on the 450 Ackley…I was looking a a very fine used one at a local Bass Pro…nice looking rifle and just a bit of web searching seems to say that in a pinch you can fire 450 (?) Lott in it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a posting about this caliber on this Forum...

Yep…..I guess seeing those boxes and remember buying those and the ones before that were paper hulls, before the plastic makes me kinda vintage also…
