does anyone use A-Max Bullets from Hornady ?

I have used a 147 grain Hornady ELDM to kill a large wild boar, around 225 pounds. He was in a trap and I wanted to see if the bullet would get through the shoulder and into the vitals at an impact velocity of around 2900 fps. It did. No exit. Dead instantly.

    Ultra Light Arms 24 - 30-06 - advice needed

I had a Model 24 NULA with a 24 inch number 2 profile barrel in 30-06. It would shot half inch groups with Federal Premium ammo. Great rifles.

Who traditionally had the higher build quality -- Winchester Model 70 or CZ?

I have multiple examples of 70s and CZ 550s. They are both solid working rifles, both sometimes need to be worked over by a gunsmith to be perfect. I think a good example of either will get most any job done. Only the Winchester is still in production, I have a new Super Grade being...

Burris Scopes……Love them or Hate them?

Have used several Fullfield II 3-9 scopes through the years. Great little rugged scope. I just got a 4-20x50 Veracity PH which has been perfect so far. A friend has one too and really likes it. The programmable elevation turret with heads up display sure seems like a game changer. We have...

Winchester Model 70 Featherweight 270 or 6.8 Western

Regular 270. I have a featherweight in 270 and it’s a great rifle. Very mild recoil for the level of performance. The 6.8 does not have good ammunition availability and may already be on the way out. Also recoil is a big step up. Basically the same as a 300 wsm. I have killed deer, elk...

Battle of bad choices .243 vs 6.5 Creed for hogs

Agree that 223 is too light. I have seen fast light bulets from a 243 fail on hogs too. Have had better luck with a 6.5 using 120 copper hollow points, 143 grain eldx and 147 grains eldm. No shoulder shot hog went anywhere with those . I have killed literally dozens of hogs but your experience...

For Sale: Steyr SM12 Half Stock in 9.3x62

I have the same rifle. Mine shoots bullet weights from 185 to 286 grain to the same point of impact at 100 yards. It shoots close to half moa with multiple loads. I also have one in 30-06, also a great rifle. The quality of these rifles is equivalent to rifles that cost 10k or more. Best...

My Story Of My New In-between Rifle & Why It's A .300 Win Mag...

I have used a 300 Win Mag with the 180 power point. Worked perfectly on a big 6x7 Bull elk hit square in the shoulder. The 300 magnums are super versatile for everything except the largest dangerous game. I killed 90 whitetails with one before a deer went 5 yards. It went maybe 10. 300 Win...

    .375 H&H 300 grain Nosler Partition vs Swift A-Frames

Partitions in 375 and 416 made in the last decade will typically out penetrate Swift A frames of the same weight. This is a demonstrable fact due to the smaller frontal area of expanded parttitions. One of the reasons modern PHs like A frames on buffalo is that they are much less likely to...

What knife are you carrying everyday right now?

I carry a custom lock back folder made by Bryant Hollinger of Camden, Alabama. Great custom maker who has not gotten famous or crazy expensive. His knives are a great value for the quality that you get.
