    Pre 64 model 70 .300 H&H follower length

Long ago when I purchased my prewar m70 (1939) 300HH it was having some feeding issues. I don’t recall the specifics but replacing the tired old magazine spring solved that problem fyi…

    Allure of the Ruger No1

I finally got to use my no1 .375 that I bought about 7 years ago. Got drawn for a bull moose in east central Alberta. Got a 50” bull at about 80m using factory federal 300gr SP. Was a pass thru broadside behind the shoulders and went down fast. Very happy with this hunt and the trophy taken on...

    Recoil and Eye Damage

You mean Alberta Retinol Consultants. Same group of doctors where Greve and Baker do their thing. This chat has me a little worried now of recoil eye injuries. I own 3 .375’s and will own no bigger but I should be going to SA next year on a SCI auction hunt with Boschnel Safaris for crocodile...

    Recoil and Eye Damage

I’ve currently got eye issues in Alberta as well. Which doctor do you speak of? Just had a new lens put in my left eye by Dr. Greve. This eye also has a buggered cornea as well. Eventually Dr. Kurji will do a partial cornea transplant. These guys are both in Edmonton. Thankfully that’s not my...

What is the least used and least liked rifle in your safe? Why?

As would your model 12 in 20ga!! I do my best wing shooting with my 40’s vintage win 12 20ga with cylinder choke. Here’s yesterday’s successful hunt…

    Who uses a 303?

I have 2 sporterized SMLE .303’s and this P14. Funny you mention your magazine plate opening upon firing as my P14 does this on occasion with full power loads only. All looks well with the mechanism. Don’t shoot her much but I’ll figure it out …sooner or later!

    Lightweight medium bore?

The browning X-bolt does make for a nice lightweight .375 rifle complete with factory iron sights. I took a young bull moose here in Alberta several years ago with mine. Nice rifle for that hunt especially being in stainless steel which I do like in winter conditions. Recoil not too bad with...

    Cheap $100 Scope

If I only had $100cdn…I would look for an 80’s vintage Bushnell Scopechief in whatever magnification you think you need. Decent scopes from my experience…

    Limcroma Safaris

Did a 7 day hunt with them in 2019 for my 50th birthday. Found the deal here which was a 5 day Buffalo cow hunt. We added the 2 days and also took a kudu, eland, blesbok, oryx and a warthog. Was my first trip to Africa. No complaints it was a great time and was a pleasure to hunt with Jan Loots...

    .338-06 or .35 Whelen

Never measured the 200BT’s but I did for the Speer 200SP loaded to max(imr4064) with a 23.5” barrel. The speers were at 2773fps…way back in the late 90’s. BT’s should be close…not enough difference for me to worry about measuring … The elk was taken on the first hunt option in the cypress hills...

    Allure of the Ruger No1

Bought my .375 4 years ago at the local shop. Was a trade in…$800cdn for the bare rifle, I love my local gun shop! I really like it but I’m not attached to it yet…haven’t hunted with it so far . Used my CZ550 for my first Buffalo hunt instead. This .375 is waiting for my next local moose hunt...
