Wanted To Trade Powder For Primers

That's a heck of an idea. I presume the meets would be regional. But like most of the folks here, I have an overabundance of some things (powder) and an underabundance of other things (bullets in .416), but I'm not about to attempt to ship powder or primers with the costs involved.

Jager Waffen: I am unsure how to use the PM function to reply to you. Perhaps you could initiate a PM, if you know how. Happy to sell you the 2 boxes of Federal Premium for $37.90. I am sure you are aware, but please note the shells are 3.5 inch.

Body Shots On Elephant (Does Caliber Really Matter?)

I don't know that I have sufficient experience to hold a strong opinion, but my personal view is you should take the largest caliber you can shoot accurately, and use the heaviest quality solids available. I wouldn't use a Barnes TSX; if I were taking Barnes bullets, I'd use their banded...

Your thoughts on my ideal safari...

Tomsbass: I hesitate to advise, as everything is going to be driven by your personal tastes. But at this point, 8 safaris after I'd promised myself I could afford only one trip to Africa: If I had to do it again, I wouldn't bring back any trophies. You will find that about half of the cost...

    Safari Logbook

A man after my own heart. I cannot stand to hear my own maunderings about life and meaning. I want to know what the barometric pressure and temperature were when I saw the 59" kudu; and then I want to know that a 300 grain swift a-frame dropped it in it its tracks.

    Safari Logbook

I'm guessing that most of us have kept a diary or logbook for our hunts. Not trying to get too personal, but what do you include in your hunting logs? I'm non-introspective for the most part, so I write very little about metaphysics, or my feelings about sunsets. I generally try to record...

    Would you like a Cigar?

My regular smoke is a Torano Exodus Gold 1959 Toro. On safari, the sundowner is a Paragas Series D No. 4. Match the Partagas with a pink gin, good company in camp, and an African sunset, and you pretty much have described paradise to me.

Federal Fusion 416 Remington Magnum 400 grain

I have not used it in Africa, but I've used it on US big game, as it was the only 416 Rem load I could locate at the time (my personal preference is for the Swift A-Frame). The fusion 400 grain performed very well on nilgai on two instances. The bullets mushroomed perfectly, both times...

Greetings from the Peoples Republic of Austin,Texas

I've been here since 1981, and the current place has nothing to do with the city I moved to. I frankly don't much like Austin any more, and have a large number for friends who are moving an hour away --- some to Fredericksburg and Kerrville, some to Salado. It's an interesting transition.

Which solid for Buffalo in 416 rem.mag

Dr. Bob, I'm always mildly amused by how passionate folks can get about their favorite type of premium bullet. As noted, I like the Swift A Frame very much (although I've happily used Barnes, Nosler, and if I was restricted to a single type for reloading, I'd choose North Forks). On the same...

Which solid for Buffalo in 416 rem.mag

There are folks more expert than me on this board, but I've used nothing but Swift A Frames on 5 buffs, with no issues whatsoever. I became a believer after buff no. 1: a 300 grain bullet broke the left shoulder, mushroomed perfectly, and was recovered on the right side just under the skin...
