You really seem to be hung up on the numbers - the velocity and expansion with the mono metal bullets. And fair enough - that can be an issue. Simple solution and peace of mind for you - go to a premium bonded or lead core bullet, like a Partion, Accubond, A-frame or half a dozen others...

I don't have a .358 Win - a closet full of Whelen's. Yah us .35 guys struggle a bit with bullet selection and availability. We've found that the 225 Accubond matches up really well with the velocities of the Whelen ( thinking the .358 being very close). Readily available and great performance...

Don't know how I missed this thread - guess I was away, outta internet coverage while it was active. Interesting thread. Question - does this problem carry over to the newer Hawkeye rifles, or just the older 77's?? I have a Hawkeye in .280 Rem that isn't really a shooter, doesn't come anywhere...

Solid, reputable outfit. I have bought and sold through them - everything went well. They run a rifle consignment sales thing - alot of interesting stuff pops up on it.

I'm in the keep it simple - travel light club. One gun a piece when we do father / daughter. As for camp guns - I'd check with your guy and see what he's got. We used outfitter's rifles on three hunts, just to keep things simple - there sure weren't any 20 pound triggers, or any of the scary...
