    Flying With Bullets on Southwest

Returning from DSC a couple years ago, I had a box of Swifts in my carry-on, NO GO at TSA security, had to check them. The ignorance of the TSA people is a little short of astounding.

    404 Jeffery Handloads

The 404J was designed to operate at relatively low pressure and is very effective at velocities between 2150 and 2300 FPS. I love mine. My load is 75.5 grains of VV N150 with a 400 grain Swift AFrame. Produces 2280 (ave) FPS with manageable recoil. I have loaded the 404J to a bit over 2400 FPS...

Is it worth upgrading a scope?

I have several of these scopes and have used one on m y 404 Jeff to shoot several buffalo. No issues. The No. 4 reticle is my favorite and hard to find in Leupold scopes.

    Bump for a nice rifle.

Left Hand M70 Classic 280 Ackley

I have a very similar LH M70 in 280AI and love it. I think, given my own investment, that the price is fair on this rifle.

Classic plains game rifles and cartridges

Based on what the poseter stated it would be hard to beat a Win .Model 70 in 30-'06 or, perhaps, 7mm Remington Magnum. I used my 7MM RM on my recent Tazania hunt and took everything up to zebra and roan efficiently.

Thoughts on "entry level" .375 H&H

I have two Win Model 70 (New Haven) rifles. Both are excellent, though I did replace a trigger on noe of them from factory to Timney adjustable. One of them is a .375 H&H Safari Express - lovely NIB rifle and worth the $2500 I paid for it.

Do you go afield with “hunting” or “nice” shotguns

For the last couple of years I have mainly bird hunted with my vintage John Robertson 20 bore SxS. I do have other vintage guns in 12, 16 and 20 bore, all of which have been well used in the bird fields.

Hornady Brass quality? What is your favorite brass for safari calibers?

Peterson, Norma, RWS primarily. Used to use Winchester as well, but recently manufactured Win brass takes too much prep before loading. I load for a range of calibers from 22-250 to 404 Jeffery.

The ideal number of cartridges to carry while hunting

When hunting I carry 20 rounds - full magazine, full slide (6-10) and the balance in a plastic cartridge box in my knapsack. I never needed all that ammo, even for DG. Usually less than a magazine.

    Looking for a Swarovski 3-9x36

I have a Z3 3-9 X 36 with no. 4 reticle. Love it. Hope you can find one.

    Magazine capacity

My Buehler/GM 404J holds 3 down. My M70 375 H&H has an extended magazine and holds 4 down. More than enough. First shot is the money shot.

    Vintage fishing tackle

That's an English Wheatly fly box. Retailed by A&F, I have a couple and they are very nice - especially on windy days.
