For years I've used a $35 digital scale I bought off the internet (dead reliable to two decimal points), an RCBS balance scale to check it, a teaspoon and a trickler. Face it ... you are not going to load 100s of .375 rounds at a time.

If you used a .338 WM and a 404J on different buffalo, I am sure you would se a difference in rrsults. Bigger bore & heavier bullet make a big difference. Please post back on your results.

I have two scopes for my 404J with Talley QD mounts... a Leupold VX3 1.5-5X and a Leupold VX6 1-6X with no. 4 reticle and firedot. I've shot it with both scopes and prefer the VX3 - it's smaller and lighter. The VX6 has slightly better optics, but is bulkier and heavier.

Govt/military seem to be sucking up most of the LR primer production. I found a guy with several cases at a local gun show and I bought 1000 Win LR primers for, IIRC, $95 or $100 about 3 weeks ago.

It's a M94 or M96 Swedish Mauser. You may find that simply warming it up with a heat gun will soften the Loctite and epoxy and careful work with a turn screw will get the scope rings off.

I am building a 308 NM right now. I like the cartridge. FWIW, I doubt going to any other 30 caliber magnum will tame the recoil at all... it will probably increase the recoils some. My advice would be to re-barrel in 7mm Remington Magnum - it has a lot less recoil due to the lighter bullets...

Probably optimal, but if recoil is a problem, you can go lower and still get great performance. I load a Swift A Frame or Barnes meplat type banded solids at 2250 or so and the 400 grain Swift AFs are a smack-down buffalo round with good accuracy.

Since the OP stated that the rifle was purchased IN AFRICA it is a good bet that it was a 'production' rifle' resold by a dealer. Therefore it is probably not a 'custom' or special ordered rilfe. My two cents.

I would choose a standard DG caliber in a standard length CRF action. I think, also, that a detachable magazine is more a potential liability than an asset. Personally, I prefer a 40 caliber to a 375.
