Any of you stop a charge with a handgun?

    1. Well "hunter" speared the buff while out of harms way safely up in a big tree. Must have been subsequent to the water buffalo incident. SAFE FOR THE "HUNTER" 2. He did not follow-up the wounded buff until the next day. There seemed to be plenty of light when the buff was struck, I wonder...

Any of you stop a charge with a handgun?

I could not agree more, although I admittedly know nothing about spear chucking. It appears a relatively young and small water buffalo. I wonder if a full size Cape Buffalo might not have bull-dozed straight through the termite mound and right onto the spear chucker guy. Who knows, but I...

    Saboted Bullet Loads?

    This is just a theoretical exercise for the OP. I got a 416 I shoot 416's in, and a 458 I shoot 458's in. I don't think I need to shoot 416's in a 458.

    Saboted Bullet Loads?

Sounds like you should know. You might need to do something like this to the bullet. I think the bullet would shoot out of the paper without the GC. With the GC, as the cartridge fires, the paper will stack against GC until the pressure increases and insures firm engagement between bullet...

    Saboted Bullet Loads?

In actual point of fact, drafting vellum, or premium printing paper (60#), is .0075 thick, dry. The diameter difference between .458 and .416 is .042 dia, divided by 2 is .021 radius. So 3 wraps of paper, dry, maybe even 2 if applied wet (which they usually are if I undestand the procedure)...

    Saboted Bullet Loads?

True, but could be done. You could use a 423 bullet from a 404 Jeff or a 429 bullet from a 444 Marlin. Whatever bakes your biscuits.

    Saboted Bullet Loads?

The answer to the original question is that you did not look back in time far enough. You don't need a sabot solution from the 1970's, you need paper solution from the 1870's. Think Quigley Down Under. Paper patch that 416 bullet to that 458 bore and you are good to go. Accurate to 1000yds...

    Marocchi/Tikka Model 512S Over/Under Double Rifle

There is a Valmet 412 on GB right now that started life as a 3006 and has been rechambered to a 300 Win Mag. The seller doesn't state such, but if you look closely at the open end of the barrels, it is obvious they ground off the "6" and hand scratched a "W" to turn "3006" into "300W". I think...

Custom Made .510 bullets At Home

Sounds like great advice. These dies are made only for pure lead. They will not bleed alloys in the core swage die. Corbins.com will sell you H dies for their hydraulic presses that will swage and bleed alloys, but the bleed holes sizes have to be enlarged to different sizes, depending on the...

Custom Made .510 bullets At Home

That is really cool. I am going to try the same thing with 300prc brass, since I have no simple means for turning belts off cases at present. I just need to find a horde of Berdan primed brass that someone is getting rid of to have a lifetime supply of 50bmg jackets. I already have about 1000...

Custom Made .510 bullets At Home

@matt85 3/8" L copper tubing (.035 thickness, pictured above ). But M tubing (.028) or K tubing (.049) can also be used. You can also use commercial bullet jackets made by Corbins. Check out this page to see what is possible even using 308 brass as a bullet jacket. These bullets shoot 1/2...

Custom Made .510 bullets At Home

I just recieved a set of dies that I can use to make custom .510 bullets any weight from 800gr on down, in either a broad meplat flat point or a 10 Secant Ogive VLD for long range competition shooting with my 50bmg. I can make the bullet flat based or with a rebated boattail. I can make these...

Any of you stop a charge with a handgun?

According to his own words as published in American Handgunner, after hours of running and exsanguination from an arrow through its lung. the buffalo stood (not charged), and Nugent started shooting for the spine, and after several shots finally hit a lucky CNS shot. Buff went down. PH(S) with...

Tungsten buckshot for leopard follow up?

Of course all you say is as correct as it is obvious. Point is, the safe maximum load for a 9 pellet 000 buck load of TSS pellets, is going to recoil more than the safe maximum load of a 9 pellet 000 buck load of lead pellets. This is just like in any rifle or handgun, the heavier the...

Tungsten buckshot for leopard follow up?

TSS loads recoil more because it is more dense than lead, so payloads the same size weigh more. More weight similar velocity, more recoil. Just physics. They say when shooting at game in the field, you never feel the recoil. I think in practice I would use similar lead loads at lighter...
