    9.3x62

And then he compares it to a downloaded .375 H&H. Regardless of the 300 gr/2400 fps loaded by many companies, you can get 300s up to 2600 fps (per Nosler and Hodgdon). Equating a cartridge with 62 gr volume to one (of larger diameter) to 78-83 gr volume defies physics, assuming similar...

Do you ever buy a gun just to have fun with and practice with? I just did.

Yeah, two .375s, a Whitworth Mauser and a Ruger No. 1 (in 375 Flanged!). I don't plan to hunt Africa, and they're too heavy to lug around my mountains for deer and elk. And besides, I have a .270, .280 Ackley, 30-06, 8mm and 45-70 for hunting, all 1-3 pounds lighter. The 375s are just for fun.

Brilliant! Practice For A Charging Buffalo

I've hooked up bear targets to a fixed bicycle and a pulley system. Pull the rear tire off the rim and add rope. It's fun. Lots of guys got et on the first run. They got better.

Getting into the handgun hunting game. 500 S&W

I've used 270 hard cast for a spike elk at 25 yards (SBH). Dropped on the spot, bullet was underneath the skin on far side of shoulder shot. I think 245 gr remaining (Cast Performance WFN).

question on the physics of obturation

So it's calculated and not measured? I can't imagine how it would be measured (hence my question).

question on the physics of obturation

I can see the pressure and distance measurements, but how in the hell can you measure throat/bullet diameter?????

BOUGHT A 405 WIN DOUBLE RIFLE - STARTING OVER - THE BUCKSTIX COLLECTION

    It's a .405 Winchester, not a .404 Jeffery. Think moderate 45-70. He said 2100 fps with a 300 gr. bullet, not 2300 with a 400.

Speer Hot Cor 235 gr 375 bullets

That's good to know. My rifles shoot the Speer 270 BT really well, but it's not designated Hot Cor, so I'm wondering if the 235 would be better.

Getting into the handgun hunting game. 500 S&W

I found with a scoped .44 and .454 I was more accurate sitting up against the base of the bench with my knees together and shooting over them than I was using a cheap MTM pistol rest. It's also a functional field position (where you don't have to worry about leopards sneaking up on you)--used...

    Practice bullets vs hunting bullets

Have you found any accuracy differences with the seconds? I just got some (.284/175gr) , but haven't shot them yet. The only difference I could tell was a less refined nose--weights were consistent with firsts. I figure any round after the first will have a more deformed tip from recoil, so...

FYI, I just saw that Thompson Center is re-introducing their Encore pistol. That in 375 JDJ would be fun!

How can the mechanical stress exerted by DG cartridges on the action be estimated? Peak pressure alone is not a solution

So would cartridge design affect back thrust? Think of 300 H&H vs some 40 degree Ackley Improved. One of the professed benefits of less taper is to reduce case lengthening, which suggests that longitudinal pressures are involved. Or is something else going on?

    Guns.com - User Beware

I've bought two rifles from them (Whitworth 375, Ruger No 1 375) and both were near new, with no hitches and decent prices. Due diligence is always worthwhile though.

    IMR 3031 & 500 NE

I love it. 79 grains of powder for a reduced load! (.375 is my biggest.)
