    Let's Talk About Vises!

Vices! I have 8 and wish I had 8 more. I have 3 1/2” Parker, (2) 4” Parker’s, 5” Parker, 4” Wilton bullet, 4” Columbia, 3” craftsman and 5” Chinese not-so-good vice. Parker’s are nostalgic. They made a smooth jaw vice like the attached pictures. They’re my favorite. I love their shotguns too!

    Gunsmith for Double rifle issue

I’ve taken the factory cartridges that I fired and put them back in and pulled the trigger on both of them and the gun opens easier. Spent cartridges slide in and out without any issue.

    Gunsmith for Double rifle issue

I have a 1925 William Evan 470 NE boxlock that when both barrels have been fired is very hard to open. I believe it is due to firing pin drag. Cartridge examination suggests this. I took the firing pin out and examined them in an optical comparator, along with the spare pins under the grip cap...

    What are you reading?

I would encourage you to keep with it. The books are long and it takes quite an investment to stick with them but I feel so much more aware of not only that war but also of current events. Such as, why is Benghazi, Gibraltar and most of Northern Africa so important. If anyone has wondered why...

    What are you reading?

Just finishing volume 4 of Winston Churchill’s 6 volume set about WW2. Getting quite an education in the process.

    Mauser actions

I, too, have wanted to make this conversion. I have three 1909 Argentines waiting patiently to be completed and considered using one for a project just like you are. I will give you some random thoughts. First I acknowledge that this conversion has been made and I know of none that have failed...

    Checkering tools

There are several ways to approach checkering. A couple of good books have been written but like many gunsmithing projects there are varying opinions. I’ll share what I was taught. General checkering is done with 90 degree tools. I was taught to use a single 75 degree tool to touch-up old...

New Winchester Super Grade Barrel Problems

There’s no question the barrel is bad. I thread, chamber and crown all of my own competition guns and some for friends. I recently bought a used gun that shot no better than 2 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. I decided to do an experiment. I took the barrel off and lapped it. Re-shot the gun with...

    Save Conservancy or Bubye?

Sorry maybe my wording was poor. If I hunt a second buffalo the daily rate changes for the whole hunt. The increase is 45% higher than the original rate for one buffalo. I have found this same increase with another PH in the area but the increase is only 25%. And, the trophy fee is adjusted to...

    Save Conservancy or Bubye?

Thank you for this reply. Can you tell me what the difference is between them and why you prefer Bubye? Thank you.
