Just picked up this Heym Cape gun. 16g over 7x65r. 2.75" chamber, full choke. 1960, 4x32 scope.
I'm unsure of the model number however, any help there would be appreciated.
Wish I could find some RL15.. scarce... I considered the Barnes bullets, but had the hornady app data already, and got a good deal on the bullets so went that direction. as components become more available, i'm sure I'll branch out and try other combinations. I have H4350 and 4831SC on order.
Well, im pretty happy. Got the #1, used 400gr hornady DGS bullets, Hornady cases and dies, and H1000 powder ( only powder on hornadys list i could find..or find easly... I did find some N160/165 but at 8# tgey were over 400bucks..so I passed. H4831sc was listed so I have a pound of that comming...
I've only recently started to research this caliber. I see 2 3/8, 3 and 3 1/4..with 3 / 3 1/4 being listed as common safari calibers.
looking at ammo availability and guns for sale..I see mostly 3" guns for sale..and every box of Hornady i looked at was for 3 1/4...
How common is it to find...
I have a winchester grand european over under in .270win and it extracts just fine... Not quite an apples to apples comparison for your gun, but.. extractors for rimless rounds in doubles aren't unheard of.
it's marked 45-70.. im guessing modern data is fine..just no +p or ruger #1 loads.. modern levergun loads should be quite fine..and plenty for accidentally bear.. though if I was going specifically for bear.. I'm pretty sure I'd take my 470NE double instead...
