"Obsolete" items that you still use

I take a lot of grief from my buddies about my Pennsylvania deer hunting apparel. I wear wool! Filson, Woolrich, Johnson Woolen Mills, Pendleton, Columbia, and my Stormy Kromer caps. They all wear the latest wonder plastics and I just sit back in my blind, warm and cozy in clothing ive had for...

Do you go afield with “hunting” or “nice” shotguns

I use a Parker Reproduction 28ga for grouse and Remington and Browning 10 and 12ga for waterfowl. I dont abuse any gun but I use them.

What Watch do you wear when you hunt?

I would be very happy to buy one also.

    Shotgun gunsmith recommendations

Turnbull Restoration is probably one of the best in the world.

    Most durable O/U action

Ive shot alot of "B" guns through the years as hunting and sporting guns. Both brands have served me well. I will give the nod to the Beretta though for the stronger trunnion lock up. With that said, my target shotgun was a K gun! 45 years of skeet with that Kreighoff and never had it break...

45/70 lever action with a Hornady Interlock for Cape Buffalo

Capstick stated the bull was shot as it's front leg was forward so all the bullet had to do was get through thin skin and the heart. He also stated it took a good bit for it to bleed out. I dont remember the shooter but I dont believe it was Capstick.

45/70 lever action with a Hornady Interlock for Cape Buffalo

I use a 1895 ABL with 430grn, hard cast, WFLN, GC, bullets. They are cast, water quenched and tough. Loaded to 1978fps In my gun, I would not hesitate to shoot a buffalo. I would of course have back up but dont feel it would be needed. I've seen what this load will do on a 2000# injured and...

Is your scope as good as your binoculars?

I would have to say no. I use Leupold, Burris, and Leupold made Redfield scopes on most of my rifles. My binoculars are Leica 10×42 Ultravids. I'm getting older and have a bit of problems with my dominant eye from a stroke three years ago. I notice it a little with the scopes but not the...

Federal's 7mm Back Country - What is your opinion?

I voted that it will be gone soon. IM0, if i can't reload it easily I dont want it. I see it going the way Remingtons Electronic rounds went. Ammo will be hard to find, limited selection of loads, and I think it's going to be hard on barrels. I know the steel case is designed to handle the...

    20 vs 28 gauge

Not too light at all. You will be snap shooting birds, not a continuous swing like skeet. Try some sporting clays when you get it. Try to find a course more geared to hunting shots. If it feels too whippy, get a leather barrel guard and put some lead tape in it. I have six 28ga guns. The...

    20 vs 28 gauge

You should try a Merkel 280EL or a Parker Reproduction DHE. I own both and both are a joy. The Merkel with 28" barrels weighs 5# 2oz. It is a well balanced little bird gun. The Parker is a bit heavier at 5# 9oz. Both can be found for well under $ 10,000. A Fine British 28 will be about the...

    20 vs 28 gauge

Some men have a weakness for drink, others, beautiful woman. My addiction is 28ga. shotguns. I've owned over 25 of them through the years. I presently house six. I've never owned a 20, I have 10, 12, 16, 28 gauges and a couple .410 bore but never a 20. Some day I will own one prehaps.
