Looking for walk and stalk plains game hunt

Thanks for all the suggestions and PMs. I have had several very good suggestions.

Looking for walk and stalk plains game hunt

I have hunted fenced areas before and I agree. I spent a week on a 30,000 acre property and I think only saw the fence twice and only actually saw about a third of the land. I also spent a few days on an 8,000 acre property, where only the public road was fenced and that didn't cause me any...

I have just been reading one of books. She talks at length about the importance of long term goals and dreams.

I fully expect to pay a high day rate, I just can't afford Natasha Illum Berg in Tanzania!

Looking for walk and stalk plains game hunt

I am looking for recommendations for an ethical operator for fair chase walk and stalk plains game hunting. I am completely open minded about the species I hunt, but I would like to hunt native species endemic in the area with minimal use of vehicles, ideally not in a farmed or high fenced...

    A new plains game rifle

I understand the minimum calibre for most species in Namibia is 7mm. I am specifically looking at hunting larger plains game.

7x64 and .25-06 would be no issue. .280AI, probably not and 7mm Rem Mag, definitely not

6.5x55, so limited use overseas. Do you have a view on what you like clients to bring for larger plains game?

You are totally correct. I have a friend who is also a member on here and I know he has had the same thing with a 375 on plains game. The locals I have met all use 308 or 300 win mag. I can't fault the 375 though so far. It is very decisive.

Sadly, they have. Our local firearms department don't allow anything 300 mag or above. Every force is different though

    A new plains game rifle

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have never personally understood how going out with multiple rifles works. I have always just set off with one rifle and a plan, which sometimes changes! I think taking two rifles would just add complications for me! I have often admired the Bergstutzens though.

Thanks. What had really set me thinking was the insistence from, the Outfitter that I should not bring a 375 H & H. It just set me thinking about whether I actually needed it. My local force will not condition 300 Win Mag for UK use. I have tried that already!

That was my thought when I got the 375. I just can't see myself actually doing any dangerous game hunting for a long time though, if at all.

    A new plains game rifle

I think the 8.5x55 would be ideal for what I want. It is ammunition availability that concerns me. I spoke to someone who used one as a hire rifle in both Spain and South Africa last year, so might be getting more popular. From what I can see it looks very similar to a 338-06. My idea with...

    A new plains game rifle

I think that most of my hunting in the future (or I hope) will be larger antelope at ranges of less than 250m. Typically 100m - 150m. I think our firearms departments just don't like a 338 of any description.
