    New Mauser vs New Rigby

I’d want to see which one fits me best. That would be my choice.

Buffalo hunting with a .458 Win Mag

I used a 270 TSX in my 375 H&H AI. I shot a trophy Greater Kudu, an old Cape Buffalo, a Wildebeest, and an old Giraffe with it. No issues. Those Barnes bullets are good to go.

Heavy Bullets in the 35 Whelen

The neck wouldn’t be any shorter, I believe. I think it would be longer.

Thanks for the welcome. I’m too old to do much pheasant hunting. It’s a lot of walking. I have steel knees and a damaged heart. But I go out once a year to see if I can get close to the pheasants that I feed in the winter. I live outside Milbank, north east corner of SD. I have 40 dedicated to...

Heavy Bullets in the 35 Whelen

Good point. I was thinking that with a well constructed 250 grain bullet would penetrate as well as the heavies. However I have zero experience with testing one against another. I should learn to keep quiet in such discussions.

Theo Roelofsz Outfitter & Professional Hunter I think it was an extremely good safari. But then, it was my first. If you go with Theo, give me a PM first, please.

Buffalo hunting with a .458 Win Mag

I’m wondering if a concern might be over-penetration. I’d hate to accidentally draw blood and maybe kill another.

.375H&H Barrel length… what say you?

Balance is important, depending on weight and distribution, I’d go with a 26” barrel. My pre-64 375 has a 26” barrel I wouldn’t want it shorter.

I’m an older shooter hunter, I’ve been shooting high power rifles for nearly 65 years. Most of my hunting game has been whitetail, then pronghorn, elk, and moose. Earlier this year I went to South Africa and shot an old Cape, an old giraffe, an old wildebeest, and a greater Kudu all with a...

Heavy Bullets in the 35 Whelen

I don’t know why you’re looking for a heavier bullet than 250 in the 35, here’s my two cents worth, take it for what it’s worth: I have 35 Whelen and a 375 Whelen. I stop at 250 grains in the 35. I have mainly shot 270 grain in the 375. In my opinion a 250 grain partition in the 35 will...
