@mdwest has the best idea - shoot/practice and then reload. In my opinion some significant safety issues can result with your proposed approach. You may very well end up with a super hot load / increased pressures from the 150 load/bullet and replacing with a 180.

I’d leave it as a 270 - have several and it’s one of my favorite rounds. 120-150 grains for varmints to big game

Either of those should be fine I like the 150 A frame in my 270 - worked excellent on everything including kudu. I also loaded and used 150 partitions - same outcome. I’m taking my 30-06 and 375 this July for another trip. Will be using 180 gr oryx in the 30-06, I haven’t used this bullet...

That’s a generous and excellent gift! I’d throw a nice 3-9 scope on there and use as is - maybe add a little more character on your hunt. I used 150 gr A frames in my 270 on my last safari - excellent results and wouldn’t hesitate to use that same setup again

I’ve only shot one buff - it was at 40 yards and I had my scope on 1x the entire time. Second shot was at 12 yards - still on 1x. From what little I know about DG, your PH will most likely try to get you within 50 yards for initial shot. I too like the option of 6x for a 100 yard shot
