One rifle for North American big game?

Col. Whelen used a lot of caliber/cartridges over his life time, from small American rounds to British big bores and liked them all. He said the best two all around for America was the 257 Roberts and the 270 Win., He also saw the advantage of larger bores and with James Howe they developed the...

    400 Whelen

Bob, that looks nice. I duracoated my 35 Whelen barrel in flat black, it matched the Savage blued action well. It sells for $45.95 here in the US. Barrel prep is easy and you just but three coats on just like spray paint, and let it cure for three to four weeks before hard use.

    Want To Buy 400 Whelen

I have some Speer 250gr'ers I will be testing, I have read good reviews on them and they are about the most affordable 35 caliber bullets available, so I'm hoping the do well in my rifles. I have some Sierra 225gr game kings and some Nosler 225gr. partitions two try with CFE223. I have somevery...

    Want To Buy 400 Whelen

CFE223 is all I have used for my 400 Whelen. I have not test any in my 35 Whelen. I have some Hawk bullets on order for both calibers. I have the 400 dies set up and am hoping the bullets come soon so I don't have to switch back and forth. If not I will go a head and work n some loads for the 35...

    Want To Buy 400 Whelen

I have not been on this site that long and was looking to see if there was any post on the 400 Whelen, and found this one. I bought my 400 whelen last year, was able to get brass and die s from the owner. Was just wondering how things have been going with your rifle. I had shoulder surgery last...

Heavy Bullets in the 35 Whelen

We do it because it is fun to us. What load powder are you using with the 275gr. in your 35 Whelen?

Heavy Bullets in the 35 Whelen

Yes there are a number of 9.3 cartridges, not confusing them. I only said similar not the same, yes the 9.3x64 is faster but not enough to make up for the wrong bullets or shot placement and if those two things are not met it's a bad day with any caliber/cartridge.

Heavy Bullets in the 35 Whelen

The 9.3 is only .008 of an inch larger in diameter witch is not enough for a huge difference. I have looked in my Woodleigh loading manual and in comparing the 35 and all the 9.3 cartridges there really is not that much difference. If the 9.3 is what you like by all means use it, they are good...

Heavy Bullets in the 35 Whelen

I have not had the pleasure of seeing in person a 9.3 rifle much less the chance to shot one, I am a gun guy so I'll shot any rifle if I get the chance. With that being said comparing the 35 Whelen to the 9.3's from what I have seen, read, heard, ect., trying to make one better then the other is...

Heavy Bullets in the 35 Whelen

I don't think those universal guns and test barrels are as close to real world rifles that we use as the manufactures want us to think they are.

That's why we start below the max and work up.

Heavy Bullets in the 35 Whelen

They list 70gr. of cfe223 as their max load with a universal 24" 1-12 twist barrel.
