Ginger Beer

Ginger Beer

I miss a good bottle of gemmerbier (ginger beer). Picked this bottle up from a roadside stand in the middle of the Karoo heading to Beaufort West.

Nothing like sipping a cool drink from a recycled brandy bottle while driving. Ha ha ha.
G'day Ryan,

A man after my own heart, yes, the brew that you have does look good, and good on you for sharing your photo.(y)

I love the homemade stuff, my mother used to brew here own, as a kid I used to guzzle it down, I recall the heavily fermented brew blowing the bottle tops off those stored in the kitchen cupboard, one of the tops damaging/cracking the cupboard wall. My mother didn't realise that her brew had become alcoholic, she thought that I was staggering on purpose when going out to play with my friends. :)

She also tried making hop beer, and made a huge batch, it looked like ginger beer, so I assumed it was the same until I took a taste. It stunk like a monkey cage and taste terrible too. The old guy who lived in the house over our bank fence was an alcoholic, and he was so excited when my mother offered all her brew of hop beer to him, funny thing is that he had the runs for a few weeks after consuming it all in a very short period.:ROFLMAO:

Another friend made a batch of ginger alcoholic wine, now that was a good brew.

I myself have only made non-alcoholic ginger beer, I just couldn't wait long enough for the stuff to cure, but god it was good.

Regards
Rob
