Sambar Stag

For deer hunters this is something very few hunters have the opportunity to go after in New Zealand. Free range Sambar, because they are only 2 populations of free range Sambar deer we have our own property to take limited Stags every year (1-2). Bigger than a Red Stag their antler formation is usually 3x3 with very heavy dark beams. Living in thick native vegetation these ghost are hunted by glassing from the edge of fields into river valleys (150-300yrds) looking on the clearings and setting up for one perfect shot. The ideal caliber is 7mm mag or 300 win because of the size of the Stags and the thick surroundings.
