Toto's "Africa"

If Mama Cass had shared that last sandwich with Karen Carpenter, would they both be alive today?:ROFLMAO: Sorry, old joke from decades ago that your comment reminded me of.
Hey, No Bashing MaMa Cass:)

Trying to restore order here. Back to "Africa" related music. Here's one I absolutely hated, but a lot of people liked. Disney used an updated version in The Lion King.

Here's another cheesy song from the 80's about Africa.

Loved that song, still do, but it didn't make me cry.

@Mr. 16 gauge mentions Rush, now that makes me cry that I didn't see them again when they were here in July.

For @Royal27.....maybe even @spike.t, started playing this for Jacques @Hartzview Hunting Safaris in the truck once. He looked at me like I was from another planet!

well @PHOENIX PHIL jacques @Hartzview Hunting Safaris is a delicate little house flower .....you probably scared him :D

@Royal27 funny you brought up iron maiden as they came to jersey to rehearse before a tour, and avoid the tax man i think......they took over a hotel that closed for the off season and one of the people looking after them new me and introduced us, as they were in the same night clubs we used to frequent. we used to go back to the hotel after the clubs closed and party and play pool. bruce dickinson didnt show his face once as he was serious into his fencing and spent his time practicing that, and nicko mc brain also kept to him self and i only saw him a couple of times sat at the bar wearing a panama hat......but we partied plenty with steve harris, dave murray and adrian smith. they had a swedish security guard who only ever wore a tshirt and track suit bottoms but you wouldnt mess with him at all!!! dave murray was married and loved telling about his wedding he had in hawaii.....so much for wildmen rockers! :) one of them( cant remember which) after a few drinks went through a personality change, and when one of the band saw this they got hold of peter the security bloke and said the nickname they had for the ones alter ego, and then it was full speed to get him away and back to the hotel.........never did find out from them what happened when he became the other person..........they were back at mine one night when it happened and one minute they were there and the next gone!

bruce dickinson didnt show his face once as he was serious into his fencing and spent his time practicing that

I knew he was a big epee fencer, which is even more ironic now, as my son is too.

That's really cool though. They always seemed like they would be fun, so that's goo to hear. And man, does Bruce have a voice.... He was originally a jazz singer as I recall?

I'll have to look on youtube for a song he sang with Jethro Tull (christian hymn) that even my mother likes!!!

I forgot how amazing this was....

From the band's website:

"... a white boy is trying to write a song on Africa, but since he's never been there, he can only tell what he's seen on TV or remembers in the past."

"At the beginning of the '80s I watched a late night documentary on TV about all the terrible death and suffering of the people in Africa. It both moved and appalled me and the pictures just wouldn't leave my head. I tried to imagine how I'd feel about if I was there and what I'd do."

Thank you!

Poor Jane is sitting there thinking. "how did it go from Toto to THIS????" :A Drive:
Hahahahahahahahaha! Royal I seriously am!!! I just logged-in and it's a 2 Pager!! Great fun!! Thanks all for the great links to the songs you like!! The "Toto" song Africa is the one that makes me sing out loud no matter where I am though.. Isn't Toto the artist behind "Jane Your'e Playing a Game?"

Cheesy video, I'm sure there is a deeper meaning. However, this song gives me goosebumps and I cry a bit every time. Not ashamed to admit it. Tell me you guys and gals don't love this song and sing it out loud when your'e driving in your car..?. XOXO

This one gives me great memories of the first guy I ever fell in love with. He is now an Opthamologist. This song came out about the time he did a medical missions trip in Zaire, and I pined away for him until he returned. And played this song over and over again until he did. LOL! Amazing how powerful music is in bringing back memories. :)

That's what it does to me too.. Certain songs do it every time..

Man, what an experience that must have been.. I once saw Roy Orbison at a gas station. I was too young to appreciate it at the time but I'll never forget it!! He was so cool.. Thank you all for the great posts!!!

I believe "Jane" was done by Jefferson Airplane...........or Jefferson Starship:confused:....anyway, I know it was one of the Jeffersons (but not George or Wheezy Jefferson from the TV show, "The Jeffersons"....that I do know!!!:ROFLMAO:)

Maybe a more appropriate theme song for Jane is:

Janie's got a gun!:D

So I went for a hike tonight and was listening to Iron Maiden Radio on Pandora.

I really don't think that giving an above middle aged man motivation to exercise while preparing for an elk hunt was what Rob Halford had in mind when writing "You've Got Another Thing Coming."

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….
