Sable taxidermy ideas

Looking for ideas and suggestions for sable mounts. I know the most popular mount is on a floor pedestal, but I am tight for floor space and still have plenty of wall space in my trophy room.

I have three sable to potentially mount. One is my daughter’s and the other two are mine. I usually don’t put the same animals together in my trophy room, but I am thinking it might look pretty good to group all three. Not sure if they should be shoulder mounts or wall pedestals. One could be hard turned to the left, another hard turn to the right and the third something in between. I have plenty of vertical space where I can offset each one both vertically and horizontally.

Comments, ideas, photos appreciated.

Another option to consider is mount your sable of preference, as well as your daughter’s. Then do a Euro scull mount with the third. Sable make spectacular scull mounts

Then wall pedestal. I think simple shoulder mount kills them. Both of these came out of Mozambique and are not at all like what you were hunting with @spike.t at Takeri.

Ruger 375 Fan, the funny thing about sable is the bigger they are, the harder it is to make them look natural on the wall - a first world problem for sure. Sound like y'all got some nice ones, congrats!

If your ceiling is high enough I would ponder stacking all three on a base. Would either look awesome or awful . . . Give it a whirl and let us know how it turns out. Congrats to you and your daughter.

I never cared for the hard turn poses.

Here's a thought. I once saw a zebra pedestal designed to look like a giant chess knight piece. The mount looked like this but had some nice turned woodwork for pedestal. I could make it without a lathe I'm sure.

I suppose it could be done as a wall mount with partial half thickness pedestal. Stain the wood ebony to make the sable a black knight.

Yes, and both were free range. The nilgai is from King Ranch and the Aoudad is from out beyond Marathon, TX.

This is a sable chess piece pose. I think it looks contrived, but in the right lighting and location it could be interesting.

I know,it doesn't look terribly natural (except maybe a mating pose?). But note that this pedestal would fit against the wall. I think the head turned hard right or left poses don't look terribly natural either. Worse are the dropped head "sneak" poses, especially hard turned.

be wary on sable, as the horns sweep backwards, so a lot of time u cannot do a standard straight shoulder mount as the horns will hit the wall
so the hard turned pose or nose down is a must
with a pedastil it gives u the option for a std straight pose and not have the horns hit the wall

Thanks, this is the concern I have. I am going to meet with the taxidermist, once he receives the horns and capes from the tannery. Then, we'll make a plan.

I think Sable were raised well by their parents, told to always look both ways before crossing the veld.

The 42" sable that @Just Gina took in the wilds of Tanzania was looking back over his shoulder as Gina made a perfect shot to his last left rib placing the bullet in the front of his rright shoulder as he was quartering away.

Yesterday on the way to town we pulled over to take pictures of our neighbors big sable bull and he was posing in all manners of positions. That was in Texas so maybe they pose differently in Canada but rest assured it is not a North America thing
