Is it taboo to hunt White Lion

Their sustainablilty is in the hands of hunters and the indigenous populations such as the Masai and if managed correctly, there's no reason wild lion hunting can't continue.

As for the other point, even if wild lion hunting is banned lion hunting won't be happening in RSA...... Lion SHOOTING might be but not lion HUNTING.

Not really a question of numbers, the big question mark lies behind the sustainability thereof (wild lion).... Is the cake worth the icing..... No it's not, that simple.

As I have said many times on this forum before, I am not a fan of the lion but can see it for what it is, (this includes the drop and shoot)

I will say it again, in 5-10 lion will either be closed completely, or SA will be the only country that one will be able to hunt lion in.

Noted and agreed on the symantics, Masai is but a small issue in 1,2 countries, human pressure is but 1 factor, disease, habitat, human encroachment, hunting pressure, as well as human pressure on prey and prey availability these are but some factors to be considered, I believe that we are over simplifying the whole issue without taking all factor into consideration.

We have done this in the past and it came back to haunt us, I have to be honest when it comes to the survival of a species my and and my ethical views and opinion of others take a back seat.

You have heard the arguments of this kind of lion hunting taking pressure off wild populations and you will continue to hear it......

Whether we agree with it or not is not the questions, the question is could it be used as a tool to ensure the survival of fast dwindling wild populations yes it could,

Do I find it ethically except able no I most probably don't but it's about more than that.

We will never agree this apparent, I believe that we all have valid points yes,

Would a 2 year release period solve the current controversy, possibly.....?! It would most definitely root out the fly by nights and leave "dedicated specialist" in the field, these are all thing to be discussed and figured out.

There is no cut and dry answer shakari..... It will forever and a day be a controversial subject.

I have been following this for a while and have begun to think that the answer to lion hunting is going to be as scarce as hens teeth, I agree with both Shakari and with what Jaco has said above.
One item I found out about releasing Captive bred lions into the wild is that for the first six months, the poor lion that has been released is in such a state of shock that the stress levels of said animal are so high that it could be likened to an innocent person being locked in solitary for the same amount of time. It is a sad time that we have to even debate this subject.

As much as I hate it, dodgy lions have been a part of the SA scene for decades (even Lake discusses it in his books) so sadly the situation certainly isn't going to be resolved in the foreseeable future.

That fidiot wanker van shalkwyk really has a lot to answer for. He had the opportunity to start getting the issue under control and bottled out at the last moment.

Ah well, I guess that means the debates will roll on for years to come! LOL!
