Hi all,

Just recently signed up here and have been browsing through a bunch of the threads, lots of great topics. I've been thinking about getting over to Africa in the next year or two, however when I was at SCI last week, I convinced a friend of mine to book a leopard hunt with hounds through my brother in law. He did, however it was on the stipulation that I go over with him and hunt a buffalo. After painfully twisting my arm, I agreed to go. Now I'm stressing about getting everything ready, including a rifle. Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially with anything to get started on to make the traveling a bit less stressful. I've never under anywhere that I've flown to, let alone out of the country. I'll be getting in touch shortly with my brother in law and the other PH, just thought I'd check with others here while they were wrapping up with the SCI Convention.

Welcome to AH

Look in the safari planning section. Plenty to read and you will start to chill after you see the info.

Congrats on the new arm sling. It heals.

Welcome!

Read a lot and ask a lot of questions. The planning is half the fun!

Welcome WestCo! Planning is half the fun!

Welcome! I used to live in Junction, still get peaches from fruita and palisades each august! Most places a .375 is the minimun on buff, check with your P.H. about caliber and especially bullets. Barnes is rated high, but use what shoots well in your gun. Plan, ask questions, check in with Lori at travel express, and have fun with the anticipation.

Welcome to AH and enjoy the planning. Which country are you heading to?

Zimbabwe, in the middle of June. Hope to also get a zebra and kudu to go along with a buffalo. But just getting the opportunity to go is the best, and seeing a leopard bayed up by the dogs will top it all off.

I am sure it will be great. Thought it had to be Zim or Moz. Leopard=dogs.

Welcome to AH!!

Then 375 H & H will be the ideal rifle calibre for this first off African hunt... most new expanding bullets will work well on buff. I prefer Swift A Frame, but also use Norma in 500gr for my 458 WM on buff... solids for the elephant!
The 300gr 375 are also well suited to ANY PG..
I leave in 12 x days for elephant and buff hunt in Zim. Will do PG as well if time and available.. hence my 375 H & H is part of the fire force that goes with us!!

Welcome to AH. Get in contact with the outfitter and PH, they will help you with what every you need. Otherwise just ask and there are 100's of guys who will help you

Welcome, enjoy your hunt and be sure to post pics!

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….

I'd like to get some too.

My wife (a biologist, like me) had to have a melanoma removed from her arm last fall.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?
