    Big Bore Addiction Group

That ain't my style... I carry my own rifle... the day that I need a gunbearer is the day I hang up my bandolier.

    Big Bore Addiction Group

NO WAY, I am hunting with a rifle over 12 pounds MAX! My .458 WM Carbine is 9 1/2 pounds, and my RSM Lott is 10 3/4 pounds and that is quite enough. Shooting and hunting are two different things.

Changing to new batch of powder- what safety margin do you need?

I do exactly ZERO changes with new powder batches... still here... POI still within an inch at 100 yards. Make up a batch, fire a three shot group at 100, look for pressure sings adjust POI as required, grab a beer and some popcorn, put on a Western, hop on the recliner.

    Blaser R8 - 458 WM or 458 Lott

Yeah,.most smiths want at least 1/8" (0.125") wall thickness over the bore diameter in standard cartridges, Personally I like 5/32" (0.15625") wall thickness for magnum cartridges = 0.770" at the muzzle for a .458, and even 11/64 (0.171875") = 0.802" at muzzle, I might go slightly heavier as I...

    Leopard and lion set-up

More.likely a weak-kneed "hall monitor" type got his panties in a bunch and reported the dialog... that is the problem with the world at the moment, a bunch of weak, easily offended simps patrolling speech. Oh well, good luck on your hunt, I hope your arrow flies true and your broadhead opens...

  17. hoytcanon

    Leopard and lion set-up

No, most of my moose and bears hunters shoot 75 - 85 pound cam bows... they did not fail because of a lack of energy, they failed because of an inferior mechanical design. Not even mechanical head proponents will argue that they are stronger than fized heads. On soft animals with perfect...

    Leopard and lion set-up

I think large black bears and grizzlies are a pretty good substitute for the terminal effects of broadheads... and that number is well into the triple digits.
  19. hoytcanon

    Leopard and lion set-up

This is total BS... 45 years bowhunting and guiding hunters and watching countless mechanical broadhead failures since they were introduced, where a fixed broadhead would have gotten it done... NO WAY... especially on a critical and expensive cat hunt.

    M77 mark ii 30-06

Ruger RSM .416 Rigby, preparations for Africa

I have owned and hunted all of the RSM's and RSE's at one time or another, multiples of many... but I am down to two, an RSE .30/06 turned into a .35 Whelen and an RSM in .458 Lott. They are great rifles, worth far more than their sticker price... Ruger sold these rifles at a loss. I have owned...

Preparing for Africa with new rifle

I'm of the opinion that you zero for MPBR using a VERY tight kill zone radius of 2 inches. With a 300 grain bullet ( ie. A-Frame) at a standard 2500 fps, this means you zero for 2" high at 100 yards. That puts you well within the kill zone on anything from 0 - 210 yards without having to adjust...

    Kudu Pricing?

Not all SA operations are "solely" put & take... perhaps the original breeding stock was trans-located, but in many larger concessions, the game was born and raised right on the property. Truly wild free roaming game is more likely to be found outside of SA however, and ironically those prices...

    Pics of your .458WM's

The American is crap. The M77 Mark II is more refined. I guide hunters... and have more than four decades. Do you know how many times I have found M70 style safeties in the FIRE position on clients rifles while hiking and stalking game? Hundreds... I have never had an M77 move off full safe...

    Kudu Pricing?

Yup, I know of reputable outfitters that have 8 day, 7 trophy animal hunts, including Kudu for $5500... the auction hunts RARELY end up being a good deal. Kudu & Wildebeest 1x1; $5,500 / 2X1; $4,500 ea. ----------------------------------------------- Kudu, Black Wildebeest, Blesbuck, Impala...
  45. hoytcanon

    Kudu Pricing?

I would never pay that for a kudu. I paid $1800 for the first and $2400 for the second one on two precious hunts. I would also not hunt with an outfitter charging sliding scale rates for horn length. The problem with auction hunts is that often the Outfitter will try to "make back" their money...
