    Buffalo rifle show and tell

Guys, you didn't disappoint. Thanks for sharing! I purchased a Montana Rifle Co .375 H&H from a member here, and have been going through the barrel break in and getting to know it a little. Its fun! Currently running the iron sights, and as much as I'd like to hunt open sights, I think my eyes...

    Buffalo rifle show and tell

Oh, I'm not looking for any final word on rifles, i know better than that. And I'm 95% sure how I'm going to fit mine out. I just like looking at setups, and I know a lot of people like to share them, so let's all have a distraction at the office today :)

    Buffalo rifle show and tell

Alright gents, I've acquired my .375 and I'm fitting it out for my first buffalo hunt in 2027. So share yours, what do you feel makes a proper buffalo bolt gun? Optic? Iron sights? Sling or no sling? Barrel band? What do you consider essential, especially from experienced cape buffalo hunters...

    What are you reading?

I just finished Carpet Sahib, it filled in a lot of details about Corbett's life is didn't know. However, shockingly, reading about his adventures as a hardware store owner, is not quite as exciting as his own stories of hunting maneaters. :) I just started "Surely Youre Joking Mr Feynman" by...

Are there benefits to using a suppressor for plains game hunting

I fall into the camp of, I'm not running out to put them on all my rifles I use here in North America. I don't care for the looks, at the range I'll use hearing protection and hunting I'll deal with (hopefully) one shot without protection. Where I WILL consider one is if my kids get bigger and...

Are there benefits to using a suppressor for plains game hunting

I had no suppressor experience before going to South Africa either, my first use was on a borrowed rifle. While the extra length took some getting used to (I really didn't care for that part), the quieter report and reduction in recoil were very nice.

    What are you reading?

I just finished rereading Tenth Leigon by Tom Kelly. I do that a lot of springs before turkey season opens usually. i just started Carpet Sahib based on a recommendation here.

    Turkey

I have hunted hard the last 5 days and been into birds most days and nothing has gone right and it seemed next to impossible. Then, like turkey hunting seems to go, one morning it's just easy..

I have no judgemental comments, i think we all know that could have gone really badly. I'm glad all ended well, and come on, life is about good stories, and that one is hard to top!! As the kids say, "but, did you die?" Thanks for sharing!

    Jim Corbett book

I haven't read this book but I can see the value in reading something not told by Corbett himself. It seems to me, based on things I've read about him, not by him, that in his writings he is almost supernaturally modest. Extremely understating the danger and his physical suffering in a very...

Pre-war Rigby 275 for sale, factory lettered

I'm not a collector at all, but the patina, the history, the name, the caliber, all in a rifle I could actually consider hunting with as intended. I was deeply, deeply tempted! But in my tax bracket it's better I put that money to work on a trip. Congrats to the buyer.

Dire Wolves brought back from extinction

"Sorta" dire wolves, if you read closely. I have very mixed feelings about this stuff, I've been fascinated by pleistocene north American animals my whole life, part of me would love to see a live wooly mammoth. The other part, well, ya know, we've all seen Jurassic Park and know how this sh**...

    Turkey

It's really remarkable, I was skeptical of the hype but they work. If I hadn't at the same time discovered that in early morning low light I have astigmatism and the red dot becomes sort of useless I might hunt with it again! Instead I'm thinking of heading the exact opposite direction this season.

    Turkey

On a related note, I have 3 young girls and have been trying to gently get them interested in hunting. Alright. Here's the report. After doing a test portion of a hide with a steam iron method and not getting great results i did as @buck wild suggested. The hide is a bit damp yet, I have it over a railing to dry all the way before I declare victory. The hartebeest is currently under the plywood. If I get them both dry and looking good I'll write up what I did with before and after pics.

Can I bring my own bottle of booze to South Africa

They make those special bubble wrap packages for wine and liquor bottles. They have a super seal on them, so theoretically even if they break, they won't leak in your checked luggage. I brought some with me to South Africa for the purpose of coming home with some wine, and they worked great. I...
