There is no other manufacturer of any product that has even close to what Leupold has. I have been a loyal fan for over 65 years and with only one exception (it was a gift) have I ever used anything except a Gold Ring scope. And in the very few cases where I had a problem it was always solved...
I agree that the area is more important and search for a PH that has access to those areas. The Selous and Rungwa areas are both for those who like the more traditional safari for buffalo. There are lots of buffs to choose from but look at the PH's who go after the Dugga boys.
I went on my...
He would shoot them in the guts and walk up to them. According to others in Africa he would often shoot them with lighter calibers to wound them to induce a charge. I agree. If he has filmed that many charges then he just "ain't" that good of a shot with any rifle. He is probably for...
You are correct about GRB. There is no parking that can take care of a large group. When the HSC was there there parking was a nightmare and HSC only a tenth of the size. Reliant is the only option. The only issue will be nice hotels are not very close.
Basically it has nothing to do with hunting as a traditional experience. Its buying something from a store. Nothing wrong with it just don't call it hunting. It is no different than shooting pen raised birds, or genetically altered whitetail deer in a high fence environment, fed year around...
Of course you are correct about a croc. Though, and o am only 75 and have been hunting since I was 7 I have never heard of a croc charging and mauling anyone. But maybe they are more dangerous than I thought.
Absolutely take your own rifle. You are hunting something that can kill people and you want to feel comfortable with the rifle - very comfortable. Ethically you should do everything in your power to execute everything at the highest level, including the gun you are practicing with.
There are certainly a lot of challenges for leadership. Four years is a long time and if they do have a four year contract with Atlanta, then most definitely the leadership that created this mess is not up to the task repairing it. Sort of like Budwiser using the same marketing firm and...
Word on the street at the Houston show was that DSC has a four year contract with Atlanta. Not sure if that is correct but that could make any changes more challenging from a financial perspective. Wonder is all that wasted money might have gone toward more conservation. Just a thought.
The letter is a good start and at least he is recognizing that there is a problem. Maybe the line from Appolo13 is appropriate, "Houston, we have a problem." And yes that can be taken in a couple ways.
It isn't so much about knowing there is a problem and we need to fix it. The people who...
I too went to the Houston show. I was surprised at the number of people in attendance. There were not as many vendors there but I am sure that its because the attendance has been so poor for the past few years. With all the issues with DSC is having. Houston has a great opportunity to...
Correct. I didn't know that conservation was a competition. Perhaps each has another agenda. Competitions are designed for someone to win and another to loose. And, the looser in a conservative competition is that which we are trying to conserve the tradition of hunting and that which we hunt.
From another perspective, it isn't clear to me exactly what problem that DSC is really trying to solve. Maybe it is time for the powers that be to get in a room and go back to the basics. What is our mission? Is what we are doing now achieving that goal and if not what do we need to do...
Certain see the point. However, that still doesn't address the issue of just moving it to another facility in the area. This is the Dallas area and you would think that there are several other places where the extravaganza can occur.
I am still not sure the real reason DSC moved in the first part. I know that the standard answer is that the convention center is going to be under construction. Yes, in three years. At least that is the word on the street. So, in Dallas, Irving, Ft. Worth, and a few lesser surrounding...
Real hunters are ethical hunters. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Have a little respect for the trophy. Stop giving the rest of us a bad name.
Well done. I too was fortunate to have such a dad. There is a special place in the hereafter for such people and I hope that your dad and mine connect.
I have owned two of George's rifles and they are the smoothest actions and both where tack drivers. They are hunting rifles without equals. Buy them both.
I agree the 375 will do all you need. They are much easier to find and the ammo is readily available. It will most definitely do the job. Use a a good 300 grain bullet and it will bring anything down you want to shoot.
Often really good PH's that have their own outfits are great hunters and not great website designers or marketers. They know hunting, what to hunt, how to do it, and where. Good websites are designed to put only the best for all to see. However, they don't tell the whole story.
The...
The Barnes TSX 300 gain is a great choice for stuff that bites you up close and personal. Because of the lack of powders and of course primers working up a load is made more difficult. You will also find that because the 300 grain TSX is longer you can't use as much powder.
I went with the...
Agree! He did get a new generation interested in Africa. And, if we have to put up with a few inaccuracies then so be it. I found the books interesting and read them all. I enjoyed the stories as such and not so much about his ego (which if you ever met him was large). But it was Death in...
This person may be a good shot but he is a horrible hunter. First, It isn't that hard to get closer than 600 yards to any animal. First shooting something that big with a .243 is not ethical at any yardage. The bullet isn't designed for such a tough animal. And, as others have said the...
Simple. It is an experience that is almost impossible to explain but impossible to forget. And certainly two bottles of wine help tell the story. But it is better if the person you are telling the story to has the same amount of wine. (And a picture or two.)
Contact Deon West with Cloete and West Safari. He hunts there and his wife schedules a lot of trips in this area. She is awesome and you will want for nothing from the time you leave the states until you return.
From the perspective of the other person (Don Hutson) there it was an unbelievable experience. And a great part of this time was to get to be there with him in camp and As a friend that i speak to almost daily now about what we shared and the plans to do more. Experiences like this last well...
According to a friend in the hunting travel business he says that December is the best time to buy tickets. For some reason the airlines have sales during this time.
E: All of the above.
It is the total experience and the interconnected pieces that make it up. Enjoy them all. The more you make of each one the greater the overall experience.
Check out Cloete & West Safari if you want a great hunting experience. If your wife is going then tell Deon and let his wife put together something that will make her experience special. My wife went with me last year to Tanzania and we took a trip into the Serengeti. It was an experience of a...
Look for the PH that is more about creating an experience for you rather than the number of animals you will take in so many days. You have to decide on whether or not you are a collector or a hunter. Either is ok but where you go and who you go with will depend on what you are looking for...
