    Favorite cartridge/rifle for moose

Almost that time of year again. I will be gathering and packing gear today. I am talking the same 20" stainless 416 Ruger with 350 TTSX. Unfortunately, never took the time to get the CEB 325 grain Maximus load finalized. I need to prioritize that, after this season. I think that 325 Maximus is...

Ruger Guide Gun 416 Ruger Review

I am currently using 2000-MR with Barnes 350 TTSX in the 416 Ruger. I based my load on extrapolation of load data from the Speer's listed 350 grain. Further comparison with this Federal load data for the 400 grain TBBC, I feel pretty good about my non-pressure tested load. The 2000-MR seems to...

Lol, yep, The pound metal can's price sticker is $17.13 from Longs Drugs. Today was its first and last opening. It seemed fine. I blended it with an 8 lbs jug, to free up space.

    Opinions please: Pros/Cons of .375 Ruger vs .375 H&H

The 375 H&H and the 375 Ruger are both SAAMI 62,000 psi Maximum Average Pressure. The Ruger has a few grains more case capacity.

Sad to see that. I have a few of their scopes and binoculars. I definitely like their optics. Their customer service was great the time that I had a reticle replaced with a different type.

    .375 H&H copper ammo?

I have shot a couple of moose with the 270 grain TSX from a 20" 375 Ruger. And was on-site when another was shot with another 375 Ruger. Distances were approximately 20, 60, 180 yards. No complaints on bullet performance. The 270 TSX and LRX are my .375 picks for Alaska. The .375 270 TSX...

375 Ruger Hornady 270 gr issues

Purely based on my on experiences, I cannot shoot to the gun potential nor systemically differentiate between the rifle, scope, ammo, or me issue; if I do not setup a consistently stable & repeatable shooting position. Time spent saves me time and ammo wasted. Could be any of the possibilities...

Looking for more reach then my .375 ..options?

I am certainly not a longer range hunter or shooter. For my moose shooting distances the .375 270 grain TSX at ~2700 fps have been excellent. I have loaded some of the 270 grain LRX which group well out of my rifle. I suppose this is my long range .375 bullet. I think the listed bc of it, is...

    .416 Ruger vs .416 Remington

You pretty well covered the pros & cons. I have both, like both. Predominately I use the Ruger. I like the 20" barrel more than 22" of my stainless 416 Remington, and prefer the shorter cartridge for basically the same performance. 300, 325, 350 grain bullets both are easy 250 yard cartridges...

I have recovered 3. 1 .416, 350 grain TSX. Moose. Frontal head shot, entered slightly under the brain pan, sheared off bone protrusions, recovered in well busted vertebrae. Less than 25 yard impact. 2. .375, 270 grain TSX. Moose. Basically the same shot as above. Slight different vertebrae...

    All copper bullets

A slight correction on the bullet type. That being an older original Barnes X, their first all copper offering. Which definitely had some consistenty issues. I think they did more tweaking than just adding grooves to the TSX.

    All copper bullets

The all copper conventional expanding type have become the only ones that I hunt with. Used within their velocity / expansion range I think they work well. Depending on which bullets compared, you may have less expanded frontal area with the copper ones. I am sure you can find failures to...

    Short barrel trend

I don't currently use suppressors. But, I do like 20-22" bolt rifles, and lever guns 16-20". I have a few 24-26" bolt rifles, but extremely rare for me to use one. Were I a long range shooter, or just wanted the velocity boost, I would use the longer barrels.

Seeking reports/feedback on Cutting Edge Bullets .416 400gr Rifle Maximus

Not the best picture, but just starting to load the 416, 325 Maximus in both the 416 Ruger and Remington. I am guessing the bc of the 325 Maximus is going to be fairly close to the much longer 350 TTSX. But, only a guess. Maybe @michael458 will see this and give some commentary of the above video

Why not a Dangerous Game lever?

My take, individual mileage may vary: The energy number is useless if it does not convert into, displayed penetration and tissue destruction / permanent relocation. If the bullet is up to the task, usually velocity increases that. Though, at some point some bullets seem to have a sweet spot of...

The 338 Winchester is one of my favorites. I also have a particular rifle in 338 Winchester. A buddy of mine said something similar to, that 338 just flat out kills stuff. I agree, with a proper bullet. It would still be my choice if I were a one rifle hunter for North American type game...

Powder for 375 Ruger 270 Barnes LRX

It has been maybe a year since I loaded the LRX 375 Ruger. I don't recall, but guessing with the H380 and my slightly longer COL I am compressed some. I use a Lee Factory Crimp, regardless of groove location. Though, I do not recall my loads being a rememberable compression event. I would...

Powder for 375 Ruger 270 Barnes LRX

I have been using H380 from Barnes reloading book / and online info, for the 270 grain TSX and LRX. My COL is a bit longer than theirs. I get ~ 2720 fps from a 20" barrel. The Speer #15 Manual list RL 16 with their 270 & 285 grain bullets. Of course, one would have to proceed with due caution...

    Opinions please: Pros/Cons of .375 Ruger vs .375 H&H

This was what first attracted my attention to the 375 Ruger. No regrets. I have and had prior to the 375 Ruger, plenty of 375 H&H's in various barrel lengths blued and stainless. The 20" stainless 375 Rugers are my favorite .375 rifle/cartridge combination. The same applies for me regarding the...

Help me join the 21st century regarding scopes

I cannot speak to the ruggedness / longevity, but optically and field of view I am a fan. I have the non-illuminated Gen 2 Plex. The first generation of the Plex was definitely too thin for my liking. I am a fan of 1st focal plane #4's, but have no problem with the Gen 2 Plex.

What aftermarket stocks have you put on a Ruger Safari or Guide or Alaskan?

I have pre- buyout McMillan, Bell & Carlson, and H-S Precision. No complaints with any of them. The H-S Precision stocks, I have ordered directly from them specifically for LOP, Decelerator pad, if front sling was wanted or deleted, and what type of paint scheme. The H-S Precisions on the...

A thorough conversation with Swarovski - Conclusion: Rookhawk knows nothing and is wrong about everything

I have a few Swarovski and Kahles products that I really like. The 1.7-10x42 Plex gen2, the 1-6x24 EE illuminated, and the normal eye relief 1-6x24's illuminated and non-illuminated. The Kahles Helia C non-illuminated 1.1-4x24 and 1.5-6x42 are still some of my favorites. Simple 1st Focal...

What one scope could you hunt anything with….

My favorite "big" scopes top out at 10x with a 42mm objective. I do have a couple with 50mm objectives, but for my use any advantage goes mostly unseen. Everyone has their own hunting style, terrain, etc.

    Swarovski illuminated vs non illuminated

I agree. There are certainly low light and environmental conditions which make an illuminated aiming point very handy. I was somewhat forced into the illumination when I could not easily obtain the scopes I wanted with the heavier 1st focal reticles. I have a few 1st focal #4's with...

All of my Alaskans are 20". But they did produce some limited runs of stainless 23" left hand, and right hand (if I recall correctly) with laminated stock and the express sights. My most used Alaskan, with a McMillan stock, and fairly heavy 1-8x24 scope & Alaska Arms rings; is about 9 lbs 8 ounces empty. If I recall correctly, bare rifles with Bell & Carlson, H-S Precision, and the original Hogue were all around 8 lbs 1 or 2 ounces, bare rifle weight. My early non...

    416 rem, 416 rigby, 458 win

Ballistically speaking, with standard factory or standard hand loads, the 416's perform basically the same. The Rigby depending on the rifle weight / etc , may deliver a larger recoil jolt to the shoulder because of the larger powder charge. Factory ammo, rifle, and component availability for...

I am a fan of the cartridge and the rifles. I am particularly fond of the 20" stainless. I am not a big fan of the Hogue stock.
