    PHASA Captive Bred Lion Hunting

I am sure this will open a new can of worms. Stories are told that say that a CBL is released into a small enclosure for a few days. It is not able to hunt or fend for himself. Throw a piece of meat in and he will come running to you. SCI requires 6 months in the wild. From what I can...

    PHASA Captive Bred Lion Hunting

To start off with it has been a long time since I have been on this site. As such this could come across as a whine. That is not the intent. The Professional Hunters Association of South Africa, PHASA, had their annual meeting this week. A group of lion farmers seems to have hijacked the...

Tim decided to tie the knot with his long time girlfriend. One evening, after the honeymoon, he was assembling some loads for an upcoming hunt. His wife was standing there at the bench watching him. After a long period of silence she finally speaks. "Honey, I've been thinking, now that we...

Want to book group hunt for leopard, cape buffalo, plains game

Any of the fine PH's here will prebait, for a fee. I can't imagine where you are going to find this many cats on a fair chase. Someone, or someones, needs to decide to drop a leopard or split into two groups and go to different areas. Even for plains game you have a big group, and they are easy.

good outfitter in eastern cape/Kwazulu natal.....any recommendations?

The best for bushpig is Clayton at Umdende, Umdende Home. He has some of the other animals close to him also. I am hunting with him next week. I haven't checked recently but a few months back he and his partner were well over 200 pigs. A lot going over 100kg. He is a blast to hunt with.

    Traveler Checks problems

I hate cash also. Picked clean in Joburg once. As pointed out Rand can be had at an ATM for the cheapest conversion rate, good for the small buys. Limits on the draw will mean you can not pay for a hunt unless it is a one afternoon duicker. You need to be aware that our commercial banks beat...

    Newbie Question

The .270 is a good choice if you are not comfortable. I was a POOR shot before I did my first trip in 1975. Went to the range and shot 20 bullets a week for 10 weeks, made all of the difference. Not that this answered your question. 100 yds is a normal range, all but the Gemsbok will...

I would bet that no matter what time you go to be you will be up at 0300, takes me about three days to break that cycle. The Delta flight is by far the best choice. I am in Natal but the suggestion on Kudu in Limpopo is accurate. Onto another subject. I am very impressed with the...

Passwords are changed often. This is a case where it was organized fraud, to the point that fake letter heads were used. There is some possibility that it was done in the customers AP system. The phishing is a wide search, we don't even use ABSA. Have a a forensic guy on it now. We have a...

    Ever Clear Your Own Trophies?

I do it about 5 times/year, it is an easy process. First off is to make sure that there is an export permit from the area that you took the animals. Customs does an inspect, if they feel like it, mostly for contraband. A Federal Fish and Wildlife form needs to be filled out, it is available...

Knysna is nice, a couple of neat parks. The town is a bit like Taos on the arts side. You might want to climb the hill to Oodsthorn, the caves are a nice visit. If you want to go to Cape Town area consider Stellenbosch, great old wine estates. I would not be scared off by the left hand...

How long should it take to get your capes

This one was not a shipper problem, seems more like the PH. Never did get a straight answer on who applied for the permits. They took 10 days to get once applied. I still think that the taxidermists need to do something to keep permits and freight under control.

    Starting to freak

Large amounts of cash are a bad idea. All of the banks in SA have a SWIFT code, wire transfers are the easiest. MY brokerage firm does them for free. Don't change your cash in for Rands. Use a debit card, all of ours work, and draw it from an ATM. It is the cheapest conversion you will get...
