Wanted Norma 257 Roberts Factory Loaded Ammunition

@Dirtdart Ro get the best out of the 257 Roberts it is really a reloaders proposition. Most dare I say all Roberts ammo even the plus P is dreadfully under loaded. The Roberts is capable of outstanding performance. A 100 grainer at over 3,200 fps and a 115-117 grainer at 2,900 fps is far better...

New leupold will be here tomorrow

@mauserhunter They do tend to mess up a bit of meat. I shoot them behind the shoulder. there ain't much meat in the ribs and they usually go straight down. My son loves the 150 gn SST in his 08 at 2,900fps. Dynamite in pigs. He has yet to bag a deer. Maybe this year . A150gn SST recovered from...

New leupold will be here tomorrow

@mauserhunter Will be a great set up. For deer the hotcores ar good but I find the Hornady SSTs seem to kill quicker, expand better and drive deep. But hey thats me. To each there own Bob

@rwp315 Hopefully you haven't had a brain snap and sold your Whelen. At least with the Whelen you can load it down to 357 hand gun velocity or stoke it up to a tower of power with up to 4,300fpe if bone crushing power. Bob

    Storing rifles

@Ontario Hunter I always store my rifles muzzle up. If you are getting oil seeping into the tang and other areas you are using to much oil. When I was in the army all rifles were stored muzzle up as well Bob

Advice sought (.358); I think I know the answer...

@MS 9x56 Once you use a fast 25 anything else 270 and under just don't matter either. A fast 25 a good 7mm like the 280AI and a Whelen and your set for 99 percent of your hunting. You could even get by without the 7mm but a bit of variation is nice. A 25 cal 80gn Barnes TTSX @ 3,800fps shoots...

@MS 9x56 My bean pole daughter had never fired a bigger rifle than a 22lr but wanted to shoot my Whelen. Even she found the recoil of full power 225 grainers not bad. Full power 259s at 2,700fps off the bench were at her upper limit. So recoil doesn't come into it . If'n he don't buy it he will...

@mdwest Why is y'all wasting money in Barnes. The speeds the 358 does is in the ideal range for the old cup and core bullets. If'n you want premium for the little power house the 225 gn Woodleigh PPSP or rnsp would give good velocities and penetration. The 250 gn Hornady or speer would give a...

Advice sought (.358); I think I know the answer...

@Alaska Luke That's the beauty of the baby Whelen aka 358 win at the velocities it launches big bullets up to 250 gn you don't really need swifts or partitions it's quite happy with cup and core. The Woodleigh 225gn rnsp would make a fine medium range bullets and the stubby sierra 225gn game...

    .303 British Trigger

@Rafiki The best replacement trigger for the SMLE is the HUBER CONCEPTS TRIGGER. I have had two of them and fitted them for others. @Philip Glass I took my latest and greatest reloads to Namibia. But they were tested in the field and used in temperatures similar to or hotter than the area we hunted. @rookhawk If'n y'all find a 243 supposedly owned by me it would definitely be a fake as it would have started life as a 358 win or o nice 250 Savage. Anything owned by me ain't worth much because I buy budget, eg exmil or Savage. Bob

Savage 110 Chambered In 35 Whelen

    Woodleigh Bullets

@deewayne2003 Why do you need an AFT import permit. I have sent projectiles to the USA with zero issues. I just sent some 310gn Woodleighs in 35 cal to another member. He had them in about 14 days. Bob

Wild hog meat… do you eat it or is it too risky?

Wild hog meat… do you eat it or is it too risky?

@John the Electrician I have eaten a swag of wild pork but I'm very fussy. I will only eat it if it comes off good country with plenty of food. Before eating I always check the liver and heart for any nasties. If the pig comes from an area that's got little feed I just shoot it and leave it. If...

    35 Whelen

@hoytcanon And 250gn Woodleighs for those that just want to get the job done with no fuss or bother. They just work. For those in a beer income ain't nothing wrong with the the humble 250 gn interlockts in spire point or round nose. I have a beer income but use both Woodleigh and Hornady. Biv

    35 Whelen

@EfRed The 250grainers at 2,700fps out of the Whelen are death by freight train. Even the humble 250gn Hornady round nose punches big holes in bigger game and rocks them to the core. Not tracking involved and leaves a blood trail blind Freddy could follow on a moonless night. Bob
