    2025 NRA Director Nominations

Regarding the upcoming elections for the new BOD, I noticed a few adds in my February American Hunter, where candidates have solicited for our votes. To get back on track, and to continue to follow the Mission of the NRA, has there been on post about this? I've done a search on AH, but haven't...

Stay tuned for the next hunt report… it was quite the conspiracy. We had an amazing trip and we were very pleased with the animals we hunted.

The guys on that team are good men. Drom has put together a quality bunch of guys. Regarding Andre…he certainly has a unique sense of humor and has amazing field skills. I’ve learned a lot from him.

On an adventure like this, and on other excursions I've done, I like to learn from my mistakes and watch others in their success and improve my skills where possible. You might say that I'm a good plagiarist. I'm hoping that my learnings will help others and that they can be a better hunter...

SOUTH AFRICA: First Trip: South Africa - Somerby Safaris

Day 10-Last hunting day After another beautiful sunrise with coffee in hand, we pack the truck to the gills with hides, horns, guns, gear and luggage. I felt like the Clampetts! Andre informed us that he and the owner Drom had arranged for us to have a dove hunt close to Johannesburg and that...

Day 8 Because of our success last night, we thought we’d try the same tactic on Black Wildebeest. The wind was on a mission, and it wasn’t hard to figure out what side to sit on in this Pan. This morning, I felt like a Lion hiding in the grass. Again, it worked, and we each got a bull...

SOUTH AFRICA: First Trip: South Africa - Somerby Safaris

Day 7 Today was quite a windy day, and we tried various tactics to close in on some animals, even trying some techniques that reminded me of deer hunting. Starting off, we each got a Springbok, but the little buggers were tough to get close to. It was a fun hunt, and the more I hunted this...

Day 6 Today we headed out to look for Tom’s Gemsbok, and we drove for quite awhile before Andre found one worthy of a stalk. What a beautiful property, Lord only knows how much game we saw. I spent a lot of time taking pictures today, as I’m still sulking a bit about yesterday. Tom of course...

Day 4 Today we drove most of the day to get to the Northwest Province. What a different landscape! Flat, and very open for most of the property with scattered islands of trees and grass. I can see that here is where some longer distance shooting may come into play. Gulp. This may be difficult...

Thank you. It's taken me some time to work up the courage to begin writing this up. I've been blessed to have taken several on their first trips too. It's the next best thing to having a "first" experience all over again. I enjoy sharing those moments...making memories with those we love.

That .280 has served me well, and has accounted for a lot of animals for us over the years. Stay tuned...she shines well with those copper bullets. I'll never shoot anything else after what was demonstrated to us in Africa!

Day 3 Tom awakened me when he walked across the porch of my Chalet…guess my sleeping pill worked last night! Day 1. Not wanting to miss my first sunrise in Africa, I awake early to peacocks and other birds beginning their morning din. How exciting… my first sunrise and a cup of coffee in my hands. I am having a hard time believing that this is really happening. We are both foresters working for a private company, we’re not...

Don’t worry about the 140 gr TSX. My wife , dad and I have killed over 40 animals with our .280 using the 140 gr TSX. Big animals so far have been: Eland, 2 Kudu, 3 Black WB, 6 Blue WB, 5 Zebra and many other smaller animals. All were 1 shot kills. If you do your part, I have complete confidence...

Is it currently safe to take a Limpopo safari?

Three of us, just returned from a 16 day hunt. 6 of those days were in the Limpopo Province. I certainly trust your opinion about you being able to handle the recoil and that I too should be able to. I can shoot a 12ga. With 2oz turkey loads, but that doesn’t mean I like too. [emoji6]. I apologize for not being as clear as I had hoped in my original post. Clearly, everyone has their own definition of “classic or traditional “. My best friend and I hunted with Somerby in 2014, plains game. We had a wonderful time and booked a trip in 2016 with them again. My buddy Tom killed an enormous buff (40+”) at close range after a long stalk. That was so much fun that we again booked with them for 2018 for another buff hunt...
