I run a Bowers Vers 458 on a 375 Raptor (08 based) and have it both on and off some other bigger bores...I have found once you hit 375 bore and above it is more about sound reduction and less about recoil reduction. It does reduce recoil but overcoming the physics of moving heavier bullets gets...

I just put a directional brake on my 416 RUM for the sole purpose of load development so will see how it performs…after load development is finished the brake comes off and I put the thread protector on it. For hunting situations with limited number of rounds recoil is hardly noticeable...

Actually any soft point 400gr bullet like an A-frame or Hornady is stable in 16 twist. The longer mono-metal solids are where it can get marginal, but they are still stable.

Berger has a great stability calculator on their website. In a 16 twist 400gr bullets are stable below 2000fps at sea level at 32 degrees.

16 twist will stabilize 400gr bullets but for 400 H&H I think preference is 14 twist
