    Choke preference

I’ve found that most stock chokes are incredibly inconsistent with their measurements vs what they are supposed to be. This has included several Beretta, Benelli, Browning and a few other shotguns. Most recently I had a new Beretta show up with three of the five chokes egged to the point they...

You bring up a good point...practice and familiarity. @HankBuck mentioned the exact same thing. If I stuck with the Blaser F3 and shot it more, I would get better with it. I believe both of you are right in this regard. My question is why. Why work harder to get to the same spot when I can hone...

    Choke preference

Need to clear something up. Constriction vs diameter. Constriction is the subtraction of the tightest part of the choke from the cylinder bore diameter. For my Benelli SBE the bore diameter is .725" and I normally shoot a FULL choke for clays and hunting that is .695" (diameter). This can also...

Yes I have and I like it very much as well.

Loved seeing the new Caesar Guerini in your hands today. Quite the upgrade from the Browning you are usually sporting. Of course you spanked me regardless of what you were shooting, but the class you did it with was exceptional. Looking forward to the next time.

    Any gin drinkers here?

Just did a blind taste test of four gins. Bombay Sapphire, Beefeater London Dry, Tanqueray London Dry and Kirkland London Dry. I tried them neat and chose them in the following order... 1. Bombay Sapphire 2a. Beefeater London Dry 2b. Tanqueray London Dry 4. Kirkland London Dry My bride had two...

I spent a morning on the sporting clays range with @HankBuck and had a wonderful time. The weather was a little wet, which was nice to keep the crowds to a minimum. Not to mention the cool temperatures that were nearly perfect for a nice walk in among the shooting stands. I used my Blaser F3...

    Why no 375 RUM?

It’s a wonderful cartridge…BUT. And that’s a big BUT. Lack of ammo. Lack of properly head stamped brass. Poor marketing by Big Green. Pushed to market without proper R&D on the feeding considering its intended purpose. At the time, push-feed actions were at an all-time low for the DG market...

Do the 577 and 600 nitro really offer anything?

They both offer the ultimate in a stopping rifle to those who are able to master the recoil. For a traveling client hunter there are better caliber options at or below the 1/2 inch mark that keep cost and recoil down.

Recommendations for a range revolver in .38 Special

I had a Taurus 357MAG 6” stainless and fully lugged barrel. It was an exceptional shooter accounting for several GA hogs with 158 grain pills. At the time I couldn’t afford a S&W, so the Taurus was a good option for me. Today I would probably go with a Kimber K6S Dasa Combat or Target. I know...

One rifle for North American big game?

I like the rail scope, but .284 is a little light for the big bears of NA. Granted, shot placement is king, but that scope isn't going to help with a follow-up shot walking through the alders.

    Talk me into Blaser R8

I’ve considered a timber stock for my R8 but haven’t found a really good reason to replace the synthetic that I’m so comfortable with. If it was a gift…sure, but I’m not likely to pony up the money to buy one outright.

Scope Recommendation - Swaro or Trijicon

I started with criteria I wanted in a DG scope and made my choices from those requirements. One of my requirements that most (if not all) US made scopes don't have is a rail scope option. This was only available from Swaro, Zeiss, S&B and a few other European companies. The Trijicon AccuPoint...

African style rifle buying sweet spot

You could be right, but I believe things are always in flux. When is the best time to buy anything? Any time before now is usually the correct answer. If you really want an African style hunting rifle, now is always the time because it’s not likely to get less expensive.

    Gun case size

I used to travel with a Pelican 1750 double rifle case and found it too big and heavy while also exceeding the 62” linear limit on all baggage. Most of the time the ticket agent doesn’t enforce this on a rifle case, but they can. We switched to a Pelican 1700 and can fit two complete rifles...

One gun or two? On safari

There is a bit of freedom but don’t be fooled. The handcuffs come with reduced range and having to pass on animals because they aren’t in the perfect orientation. Not to mention that many bow hunters in Africa end up sitting in a blind for hours hoping to get a shot. Make sure you discuss with...

One gun or two? On safari

No. You can only bring ammo that matches cartridge of the rifle you bring. And the ammo needs to have the same headstamp. Also, some countries will require you to have all of your brass when you leave. They document how many cartridges you take in and it needs to match when you leave.

Does the background affect you ?

I’m thinking about getting one of these for that reason. Plus it would be fun for a hunt report. Do you find it has a big impact on the swing of your shotgun?
  40. BeeMaa

One gun or two? On safari

You are not allowed to bring two rifles of the same cartridge. However if you happen to have a travel companion (wife, son, brother, friend…etc), they can have their own rifle in the same cartridge as yours. More paperwork and a heavier case would be the downsides.

210gr Copper Solid 300 Win Mag?

This could be getting crazy. I had a response all typed up and deleted it after re-reading it. I don’t feel like kicking the hornets nest so early this morning. Bonded vs non-bonded vs mono-metal… :A Stirring: I like the Barnes TTSX in the 300WM.

Does the background affect you ?

I have a hard enough time trying to concentrate on the leading edge of the clay to think about the background much. When I replay shots in my head, the background is blurry. Do you shoot with anyone who can watch and give you an idea of what you are doing wrong to make corrections?

    10's & 12 3.5"

The 10 bore is slowly dying from 2 major factors and a few more minor ones. First is the 3.5" 12 bore shell, second is the advent of modern & more dense shot materials like TSS. The minor issues are recoil, price & availability. But to be honest, recoil is killing the 3.5" 12 bore shells as...

    Shotgun weights

+1...with the caveat of having to be committed to the discipline. Fit and handling make a huge difference but the benefits only come to those who practice consistently and have a consistent mount. Repetitive mounts (several hundred per day) of the shotgun over the course of a year is a start...
