Double rifle shooting tips for beginners?

What you’re hearing about SXS double trigger shotguns is good advice. I would encourage you to work up to some heavy loads over time. Just dont give yourself a flinch with a gun that hurts your hand or face. I use trigger guard bumpers on everything. I’m a fair game shot. One reason is that...

    Boxes, and blades

Am told, as it seems I was way too young to now recall, that I once owned, manfully helmed and commanded, a cardboard box. Don’t know what came in it, or how I got title, but it seems this paragon of containers was an able stand-in for Apollos, Poseidons, Mustangs, P-38s, Citroen DSs. Toyota...

    English doubles will soon……..

Fom a pro-hunting and wildlife conservation nonprofit.: “Shooting sports in the UK release 5,000-6,000 tonnes of lead ammunition into the environment every year. Some 2,040 tonnes of this ammunition is released into the rural environment. There are no precise estimates of exactly where this...

Now, rifles? I lack the knowledge. Is there a variable of internal ballistics differentiating projectiles containg lead as opposed to all copper or whatever? Muzzle velocity, projectile mass, BC being equal, isnt the POI identical to the nanometer?

    English doubles will soon……..

Talkin’ shotguns right? I have been keeping an eye on the British and Spanish shotgun makers since about 2000. Ordered a couple Eibar guns, bought another what three vintage Spanish guns in UK. This topic has been on my radar for a while. I’ve talked to BASC, other experts, the gunsmith and...

Looking for a new SXS. What's available?

    1. Spain 2. Spain 3. España After that it’s just details. The hard part may be finding the open chokes you want for upland. Subgauges are hot at the moment so for that kinda scratch you may have to stick to 12ga. Or maybe the little-loved redheaded stepchild the 16. Great gauge, crap ammo...

Where on the rib to mount a red dot

Mitch, what you say of course is true. Seems to me there’s a place for these sights, not yet having had a chance to try one. Look: The rib, the bead or beads, the barrels themselves, if we shoot effectively we are of course target focused, but it is an impossibility that we are unaware of the...

Where on the rib to mount a red dot

Not getting any juice here, so I called Williams. The tech tells me it’s all about binocular shooting as in with both eyes open. The distance from eye to sight is mainly set by the individual’s eyesight and preferences, But generally, the further the sight, the easier it is to shoot with...

Using J. Sipp to make 3 Blaser barrels and a suppressor….

Using J. Sipp to make 3 Blaser barrels and a suppressor….

It’s been years but I had him redo a Dakota 76. It was a nightmare. Not a peep for months at a time, completely unresponsive, uncommunicative. We thought we were losing the rifle and any money. I was looking at taking him to court. After way way way too much of that, I got a gorgeous rifle...

    Guatemala Fishing Recommendations

Last words: Go with gringo captains. In my admittedly limited experience, the Fooking Guatemalans just dont fooking get it, but they think they do and are arrogant about it. Dunning-Kruger with a vengeance. And I can call em Fooking Guatemalans cause I am one. Antigua rocks! Allow massive...

    Guatemala Fishing Recommendations

Pick your time carefully. Sails have historically peaked Jan/Feb. There are dead times too. I was just there and it wasnt good. Wonder if that has anything to do with the what 5km longline we saw with a baited hook every M. Plus the inshore nets, legal, plus the ilegal ones at the inlets. I...

Glad I asked. All very illuminating. I’m thinking it’s been debated thoroughly and then some so I dont want to open up the can of worms of cost/benefit of reloading. Pretty sure that I at least cannot improve on modern factory ammo and its pricing, given that I would be tooling up from...

Hello all. Badly need some .470 NE dummy rounds/snap caps. Turns out they are more scarce than the dodo. German Ebay has ‘em, but the seller wisely limits his market by refusing to ship to US or UK where I have people who would sort me out. Ideas? Cheers!

I second that query. Old guy issues. Incipient cataracts, floaters, degraded focal range. Shooting handguns with holographics vs irons is night and day. What’s your experience w rifles especially big doubles?
