SOUTH AFRICA: My First Hunting Trip In Africa

Congratulations 'Norwegianwoods' Your Impala and Springbuck are excellent trophies. The kudu is still a fairly young bull - but hey - with only five days one cannot really be choosey can one. Great pictures! Are you sure you do not have a (lost?) twin-brother here in Namibia? You look...

    375 Rifle Choice

Fkn wise ass!:doh2: Haven't you noticed i specifically asked for 'wise men' to comment!:sarcasm: Seriously - i don't get it! I understand the shorter barrel-issue for DG close-ups as RickB explained. I believe any rifle's barrel length were designed / tested by the manufaturer / engineers...

    375 Rifle Choice

As i am in the market for (probably) a new M70 375 H/H (Saf Express) i have read almost every post on AH about the .375's and never came across this type of suggestion before - untill now. I am confused by this comment - why would anyone want to cut off 1-2 inches of its barrel? Am i missing...

CHOICE in .375 - Guidance please!

Was wondering when you are going to dive in here..... I really do not mind the stretch....as long as it does not have / leave stretchmarks.... Rohan, unintentionally you've touched a nerve with this 'stretch-thing' of yours mate. Seasoned hunters and rifle-lovers does not take...

    competition hunt

I guess it is a meat-hunt 'lucky draw' and not a trophy-hunt, and only for local hunters in your area / province, as no foreign hunter will go through all the expences travelling abroad for just a Kudu and Blesbok - right? Usually tickets for such a 'lucky draw' is for a donated hunt /...

    competition hunt

baas303, i have no idea - but if it was me - i would start by contacting my local Nature conservation office and PHASA / NAPHA (depending where) and take it from there. If on your own farm / friends farm - i guess you make the rules and determine the selling of tickets. If on a stranger's...

    Hunting in 2012

Well, i am going on my annual 'biltong jag' (meat-hunt) in May at a friends place. Situated about 60 Km east of Gochas in Namibia-Kalahari. Been there 2 years ago - I just fell in love with the palace! Oryx get huge there! 2 years ago harvested a bull Oryx at 127 Kg gutted / head / hoofs &...

Woe is me, woe is me

Aaaagh hell Ole Bally, i think the last resort for Cliffy is to get his PH to arrange for a bus-load of teenage girls to the camp, with all the giggling the hyena is bound to come investigate what clan is trespassing on their turf....voila!

    Help...ID 10 T error!

I was having trouble with my computer.:smash: So I called Jaden, the 9 year old next door, whose bedroom looks like Mission Control,:cyborg: and asked him to come over. Jaden clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem. As he was walking away, I called after him, 'So, what was...

I am still one hole behind you!

A guy was playing golf one day and he got lost. He saw a lady up ahead of him and went to her and said "Can you please help me, I don't know what hole I'm on." She told him "You are one hole behind me. I'm on 7; you're on 6." He thanked her and continued playing golf. On the back nine he...

Woe is me, woe is me

I fully agree Ole Bally. No pressure on Cliffy or his PH, and in Africa this means one thing...record trophies of many species are going to be all over you, nibbling your ear, licking your face, nudging you from the rear and even following you to the loo - just for the hell of it! Usually...

    Kudu

Respect 6 mm! I have a lot of respect for sucessful kudu hunters - they are one of the most difficult hunts (to me) in densely vegetated areas. See my post under Shot Placement Enigma - happened to me in July this year - i am still suffering from this incident! Just wondering...as your site...

    camping in africa.....

    Stupid question with excellent response

Greetings .308 from across the border. (NAM) I believe that you will be hunting in open / savannah-type plains with the intended rifle (.223 / .234) for the species you mention? Just curious, because if you are hunting (going to) those mentioned species in the bushveld (medium to densely...

    .270 Winchester for plains game

Thanks Joester - agreed - if you have the option for a heavier than .270 cal on larger plains game - naturally go this route. In my opinion and experience - if your shot placement is off with a .270 the animal will make just the same in the opposite direction, as when poorly shot with a...
