I knew it was coming up soon for you. Sounds like you’re all geared up and ready to go. Looking forward to reading all about it. Safe travels and shoot straight.
Had to reschedule from 2020 to 2022 (Covid) for my first cape buffalo hunt. My outfitter/PH was very understanding and we got it worked out. Had a great hunt in 2022 and was able to take my first buffalo on that hunt.
I would reach out to American Tanning Company in Griffin, Georgia. They do lots of gator hides and I’m pretty sure they could do croc but not 100% sure.
This is if you are wanting leather made. If you’re looking for a natural tan/rug, I’d reach out to a taxidermist for that. @gizmo, a site...
Beautiful rifle and a comprehensive package for a lefty wanting into the double rifle game, this would keep somebody shooting/hunting for years to come. GLWS
Not sure on the Lott, but out of my 458 Win, a 450 grain Aframe did wonderfully on Cape buffalo last year. I’m sure with the higher muzzle velocity of the Lott, 500 grainers would be great.
In response to the 416 Rem brass I’m getting from @Lefty Brad, I am putting up an Allen rifle sling and a set of 30mm Talley rings for a CZ 550. First I’ll take it, gets them. Just PM me your shipping details and I’ll get them headed out. Thanks
Looks fantastic. My son-in-law is also a big help when I have projects that need doing.
Having only daughters myself, he has been great help more times than I can count.
Congrats on the additions to an already awesome taxidermy collection.
If you can find any, the 400 grain flat nosed solids made by Barnes are a good choice. They can be hard to find but if you look, you might get lucky and find some.
Of the choices on the poll, I’m taking my 404Jeffery, with 400 grain swift AFrames.
However, I will be taking my 416 Rem this year for buff and elephant. I’ll be shooting 400 grain AFrames for the buff and 400 grain Barnes Flatnosed solids for the elephant. I have these bullets also loaded...
Have wood paneling up 42 inches in the great room and lower in the basement, where the ceilings are much lower, then a beige color for the walls where the animals are placed. I have cyprus wood for the ceiling in the great room
I got my first 416 Rem earlier this year and have really enjoyed shooting it. Good quality ammo is readily available, much more so than for my 404Jeffery.
Recoil is manageable and so far I’ve been pleased with my ability to shoot it accurately. I’ll be taking it for buffalo and elephant in...
I joined AH in 2022 prior to my first buffalo hunt. I had previously been to Africa hunting in 2009, 2011 and 2013.
I will say that AH has been a tremendous resource for info on rifles, ammo and planning future safaris. Since joining AH, I have been on safari in 2023 and 2024 with site...
I hunted with Omejuve in 2022 out of their Ivory Camp. Had a great hunt and overall experience. Saw lots of game to include buffalo and crocs. We were on the Kwando River.
I’ll be back in the Caprivi in August with Thormalen&Cochran after buffalo and some PG. the Caprivi is a wonderful place...
Don’t have a need for this great looking rifle. I can say that @teklanika_ray is great to deal with. I’ve done a deal with him previously and it went off without a hitch. If your in the market for a great rifle at a great price, deal with confidence.
Don’t know much about the Blaser R8 rifle systems but compared to what I’ve seen these types of rifles sell for this looks like a great deal for somebody looking to get into the Blaser R8. The 416 Rem is a very well respected caliber for anything somebody might want to hunt. @Green Chile is a...
Don’t own a 338 Win, so not an option for me. All of the different ideas shared on this thread are excatly what I was hoping for when I started it. I am more confident right now right the 300 Win than the 35 Whelen at potential distances I might be shooting with the ammo I have available. In...
@Andrew62, me too. I have shot 200 grain TBBCs out of my 300 win for a long time and they always worked very well for me on everything I’ve ever shot with them. I tried the Terminal Ascents and they were just more accurate than the TBBC at 300 and 400 yards. So I figured I’d give them a try...
I am looking forward to seeing how my 400 grain Barnes flat nosed solids preform on elephant out of my 416 Rem.
The 404Jeffery version of that bullet was great on a hippo on land for me so I am a believer in that bullet.
@Deepfork, that’s the plan. I’ll be taking 200 grain Terminal Ascents for my 300 Win.
I have a good supply of 225 grain TBBCs for the 35 Whelen that shot ok out to 200 yards but not as good as the 200 grain Terminal Ascents
I don’t have a 7x64, so I will be bringing my 300 Win on my upcoming hunt. It was more accurate at distance than the 35 Whelen with the ammo I have. I am not a hand loader so I am limited to factory offerings.
The place I’m booked to hunt next is the best, where ever that might be. I am heading to the Caprivi and Bushmanland in August. I’ve been to the Caprivi before but it will be my first time in Bushmanland so I’m really looking forward to that. Then there is the Omay, I’ll be there in 2027 so...
The area and outfitter you are hunting with, bushbuck would be at the top of my list if I were in your position. Cape kudu would also be a priority. Then I’d defer to the PH in terms of other animals to target. Some of the other animals that come to mind are warthog, eland and zebra in terms of...
I am always on the look out for nice left handed Winchester M70s. Either for the caliber they are or for what I can have them made into. I typically keep some money set aside and available because when I find one, they don’t typically last long. I also have set limits for what I am willing to...
It won’t be until September but I’ll have a black bear tag in my pocket when I am in Alaska in my goat hunt.
Supposed to be some good bears in the area, if they aren’t all hibernating by the time my hunt gets here.
