    Buying Ammo in Africa

The thread about the luggage system at Tambo breaking down made me wonder about buying ammo abroad. How many here have actually had to buy ammo abroad? Where would one actually go to purchase ammo and what cartridges are mostly likely to be on the shelf? Are there any restrictions on...

3.5 12ga vs big bore rifle

OP, I started with a .375 Ruger in a relatively light Ruger rifle. After the first few shots, it was no big deal and kind of fun. I gifted it to a friend that wanted to use it on nilgai. A couple of suggestions, start off with a lighter weight bullet until you are comfortable with it. Make...

    Swarovski EL v. NL

Also worth taking a look through the Zeiss Victory binos. I was a dedicated Swaro user until taking a look through a friend’s Zeiss. The Zeiss were ordered the very next week and the Swaros EL’s went to ebay.

416 Rem Mag vs 404 Jeffrey

Where are you .404 Jeff owners in the US finding ammo and/or brass?

    Peterson brass

Peterson is good to go and makes brass at least on par with Lapua quality. I use both and now order Peterson as my first choice. I especially like and highly recommend Peterson's .300 Win Mag “long” brass, which is 0.010” longer from base to shoulder, which is comparable to fired brass. The...

For those that can't afford the Rigby Big Game or Heym Express, What's the next best thing?

Could you perhaps be thinking of Rigby, who uses Mauser barreled actions? Rigby states in their brochure they are using Mauser manufactured actions. The statement is in the paragraph under the Big Game model. https://www.johnrigbyandco.com/wp-content/uploads/rigby_brochure_2016.pdf Heym...

    Double vs Bolt .. Speed/Accuracy

The bolt gun keeps jamming? He is shooting a rifle that is not his own with iron sights he may or may not be familiar with. The lesson learned is use a rifle that works with sights of whatever variety are easily seen and practice to the point of being thoroughly familiar with it. Amateurs...

For those that can't afford the Rigby Big Game or Heym Express, What's the next best thing?

From a pragmatic perspective there is a real difference in ammo and component availability at least here in the US. Checking ammoseek.com, .416 Rigby ammo is readily available here in the states, while not a single vendor has .404 Jeff. Same for brass.

For those that can't afford the Rigby Big Game or Heym Express, What's the next best thing?

Contact Border View who handles imports and exports between the US and Canada. It is fairly simple, although slow.

Curious why cape buffalo have the same minimum caliber requirement as Rhino, Hippo and Elephant?

I could care less what that measured, that might one of the greatest trophies ever. Amazing, and a real warning to heed at the same time.

Rigby Big Game Vs Heym Express vs Mauser 98

I looked at D'Arcy Echols a couple of years ago and spoke with Reto about one year ago. Prices from both are well above the price for the Heym from Ralf Martini, which was priced in Canadian dollars, not US dollars. The Canadian dollar is roughly 0.6x - 0.7x a US dollar with the current...

Rec for Importer from CA to US

Rigby Big Game Vs Heym Express vs Mauser 98

I have been pondering the same question as the OP, then found this thread. This discussion was very helpful. Huvius your post in particular tipped me to a decision towards the Heym in your link. It is on the way. Thank you very much.

Rec for Importer from CA to US

Hello all, I have enjoyed reading here and all of you are a quite terrible influence on me - in the best possible way though. Now thanks to a post by Huvius in this thread, I am purchasing a Heym Martini Express .416 Rigby from Ralf Martini in Canada...
