    Trophy Room - start

Practicality was certainly a major player. With the building already in place, all that was required was remodeling walls and flooring. The advantages were; heating and AC already in place, the addition of the balcony enhanced the look of the house and provides a cigar area with a nice view...

    Trophy Room - start

The room with the rugs is 15' X 15' and was a game/entertainment room. The opening off the hallway was original to the house. The second room (Ferdinand's) is 15' X 20" and was originally a bedroom with entry at the end of the hall (Where the rhino skull sits). We eliminated the...

Unfortunately the office is separated by a stairwell, but there is a connecting hallway. Yes, it does appear that way - they were actually texting their respective wives - showing them pictures.

    Trophy Room - start

That was the first step in the build. All the existing sheet-rock was removed, walls modified, and all were lined with plywood. The wainscot paneling and sheet-rock where applied over the plywood. As you stated, trophies can be mounted anywhere.

    Trophy Room - start

We have started what, hopefully will become a suitable trophy room. Rather than construct a stand-alone building, we opted, since there are only two of us in the house, to take a couple upstairs rooms and combine them into a trophy "space". Two closets and a bathroom were removed from a...

    Pulsar Thermion Scopes

I recently purchased 2 Thermion scopes, an LRF XL50, and an LRF XG50. I have downloaded both the Stream Vision and Stream Vision 2 apps for my phone. I have managed to get both scopes synced, and my question is: is there a way to not have to go through the entire wifi on, bluetooth on, sync...

First Trip to Africa, Elephant hunt Advice?

It was on an alligator hunt in Southern Louisianna. Standard practice is to bait a hook with chicken, fish, or some other smelly delicacy, suspend it from a tree limb, or pole to leave it hanging about 12 to 18" above the water. The other end of the line is secured to something substantial...

First Trip to Africa, Elephant hunt Advice?

You've gotten some great responses, let me add my perspective if I may. My first hunting trip to Africa was at age 65, having shot nothing but pheasants and quail for the previous 45 years. I went with no expectations, agenda, or "Trophy" limitations; I was going for the experience. Armed...

    Bench Rest Question

Well, if one ever does go in I'll be sure and take pictures; although it sounds like I'd have more success if I shot it first and then drug it into the trap. In the meantime, I got my Duke traps today; I'll try setting them when it quits raining.

    Introduction from Nor Cal

Welcome to the forum. We moved from the Napa Valley this past May. I was born in St Helena and spent most of my life there. My uncle, Roy Saucerman, ran a pheasant club in Cordilia, my father hunted there for years. I still have a membership at Wing & Barrel Ranch in Sonoma although I've...

    Bench Rest Question

O.H., You have got to be sh*tting me. If several feet of snow isn't bad enough, you had to mention -20C. Then, to really put it over the top, 50 mph winds and a windchill of -50. You do realize there are places on this earth where extremes like this don't exist. I grew up in the Napa...

    Bench Rest Question

That would be my first choice if they were around in daylight and the neighbors' houses weren't so close. The balcony off my trophy room is 500 - 600 yds from the pond, but I won't have an unobstructed view until I finish moving all the dirt and burn a couple brush piles. Right now it's just...

    Bench Rest Question

Thanks, I ordered some Duke 550's, some bait and coyote urine, and started watching YouTube. I had a live trap, which I set today using some chicken and shrimp for bait. Maybe something will wander in. My pig trap is ready, when weather permits I'll go pick it up. Suppressors are mounted on...

    Bench Rest Question

I've baited - lions, leopards, crocodiles, caught alligators on baited hooks; as for trapping - mice and gophers are about it. I did catch a skunk once in a live trap, getting him out was not a pleasant experience. I will watch the videos and buy some traps; sounds like it might be fun...

    Bench Rest Question

I hadn't thought about trapping the coyotes, just the pigs; but that's a great idea. Live traps or jaw traps? There's a lot of them in the area, I hear them every night. There's several cattle ranches on either side of us. What is your bait of choice?

    Bench Rest Question

Excellent point, thank you. In my limited experience with sticks, when a second shot was required the majority of the time I came off the sticks and shot off-hand which proved more successful than getting tangled up in the sticks. Perhaps more practice is in order. Range isn't the issue...

    Bench Rest Question

I've shot off sticks without any issues, and I'm not opposed to trying what you suggest. I am thinking a bench would provide a stable, hands free platform for the thermal which I could then monitor with my phone or Ipad. Either way, a comfy chair is a must.

    Culling belt vs Cartridge Slides

My legal first name has 10 letters, my last name 12; they are both misspelled and mispronounced often. I've learned not to lose sight of the intent by focusing on a misspelling. Autocorrect doesn't help.

What can be done with Crocodiles?

Good for you - croc hunts are awesome. I have done both stalk/ambush and bait. I don't know how much research you've done, but the kill zone on a croc is small. Be prepared, a golf ball at 100 yds is a standard I've heard. I've shot a lot of alligators, pistol at close range, the majority...

Help with thermal scope and suppressor (and pigs)

Funny you should mention Gatling - I have 2 Thompsons and an AM-180, I just figured they were more suitable for shooting the ones I catch in the trap. If you're not familiar with the AM-180, check it out on YouTube. ROF of 20 RPS or more, depending on ammo. Pain in the ass to load the drums -...

    Culling belt vs Cartridge Slides

Your initial post does not mention rifle, bolt or double - or caliber, but you do question if a culling belt is "over-the-top, over kill, or uncomfortable. I can speak only from my personal experience and preference. My first consideration for ammo is access, second is amount. My go-to...
