I need advice from someone who lives in Atlanta. What is your expectation for interstate 85 tomorrow. Temperature looks good for a little salt to keep the road only wet. I’m about 10 hours north of Atlanta and would love to come to the show.
Warning! This crowd will have you buying all kids of big bores. I like you hunt a lot of whitetail. I purchased a Krieghoff 458 win mag double. There are bullets available from 250 grain to 600 grains. I reload so I load light bullets for whitetail and heavy for Cape buffalo. I like...
Before my first Buffalo hunt I decided no frontal shots as my first shot. Hitting both shoulders with a 400 grain premium bullet takes a lot of danger away from the ph and trackers.
The last few scopes I have bought have been leupold, but not new. I look for estate sales and buy one a few years old. The one I mounted last night was made around 2007-2010. Good luck.
I’m no expert by any stretch, but I shot my first and only Buffalo with a 400 grain Woodleigh bonded soft point. It flattened out to 1.2 inch diameter and the Buffalo ran about 20 yards or so and tipped over. The two other guys with me used my gun to shoot their buffs. One never made it out of...
I have also tried to get folks selling with multiple barrels to separate, but none are willing. A gunsmith in Utah makes barrels for the model 95 etc., but he has never made the S2 set. Although he is considering it. He’s not excited in putting out the cash to buy a complete S2 as a pattern.
I currently own a Krieghoff Tech and would like to purchase another whole gun or additional barrels for mine. I would be interested in 416 rem mag, 450/400, 375 h&h, 12 gauge. Would also consider other calibers. Thanks
Heirloom and Africa scream double rifle. 375 h&h or 9.3x74r. Shoot it and get good with it. You’ll both sides of the pond and build great memories. I took mine on a 7 mile hike this morning.
I’m guessing 458 win mag has more availability in the African bush. I have yet to shoot an elephant but it seems every camp has a 458 win mag or 458 Lott around.
I used 458 win mag 400 grain Woodleigh softs and 450 Cutting Edge solids for a Buffalo hunt in September. This combination has worked perfectly for 3 bulls now. I shot a kudu with a barnes 350 grain and I found the bullet on the off side shoulder skin.
I went on an own use cape Buffalo hunt in September. So I only got the pictures. I had 20x30 inch pictures framed. I love the picture, but I would much rather have a shoulder mount. I had to choose between not hunting or hunting and only getting a picture.
I saw a 9.3x74r double rifle that caught my attention. I mostly hunt in Namibia which has a 5400 joules minimum for big game. In reviewing load it appears it comes up a little. Has anyone achieved this minimum? Thanks
Congratulations on some beautiful trophies. I was at Waterberg chasing buffalo when you shot the hippo! Lou sent Kabous the video and asked his opinion. We were afraid you shoot a little low. Those Waterberg buff are huge.
I use 400 grain Woodleigh soft points/ 450 CEB solids in my 458 win mag. Front trigger loaded with softs, back trigger loaded with solids. It’s accounted for 3 Cape buffalo and a truck load of plains game. Although I use lighter bullets for pg. No complaints here. I think it’s one of the...
When my kids were growing up I bought a “pole cat”. It comes with an attachment for the front swivel stud and the two legs snap on and off like a socket wrench. The section between the socket snap and the legs is rubber so they can keep the gun level on uneven terrain. They killed truck loads of...
Unfortunately 6k will not buy 1 person a guided elk hunt these days too many places and you would still need the licenses and drive on top of the guide fee. Don’t give up, just try again.
My daughter is considering bringing along her daughter on our safari next year. Her daughter will be slightly over 1 year old. We are 7 time zones behind southern Africa. Has anyone tried this and how do young kids adjust to the new time zone? Thanks.
I attend one or more hunting shows each year (SCI, NRA Outdoor Show, etc) I call them Lier Conventions and I’m okay with folks being optimistic. 4 oz of water in an 8 ounce cup is half full or mostly full. No one wants to hear 4 of 8 is not much. Embellish away, just don’t lie to steal some...
I’m considering cutting my 375 H&H barrel from 24” to 22”. I’m using H4350 powder to reload for it. Has anyone tested there 375 H&H to see how many fps cutting 2 inches or even more from the barrel? Thanks.
I seem to go prone probably 1/3 of the time in plains game in Africa. I shot my spring buck and kudu prone with my 458 win mag. I will caution you, not everyone or every load should be shot prone. It’s very easy to get hurt prone by the rifle when you’re working with big bores prone.
If your budget is $10,000 for a rifle, you can buy a nice 375 or 9.3x74 double rifle. My last two trips have been with a double and i loved hunting with it.
I have flown with them twice this year. Both in economy. I like the seats better than delta. I flew first class a few years ago and the food was good. The lay flat seats in first class are really nice for some sleep.
