A friend of mine and myself booked a bowhunting trip with Harry Nel of African Arrow Safaris in RSA near Ellisras. When we booked, Harry was running a special that if 2 people booked, there were no daily fees. We only paid for the trophies we shot plus any tips. I spent months trying to figure...
There wasn't any discussion of a "camp fee". We didn't find out about it until the end of the hunt. It wasn't an issue so we didn't make it one but we had already given a staff cook a nice tip. It was more or less a surprise at the end of our hunt.
At the end of our hunt we received an invoice that included a "camp fee" which was for the camp staff tips. Has anyone seen a mandatory charge for this? We weren't even aware of it.
Well they are 100% American made and have great customer service. When you add the fact that the product is very well engineered I don't think you can beat them. Good luck.
If you have a dealer around you, go test shoot an Obsession bow. I've shot about every brand made and Obsession is what I am currently shooting. Great bows.
Your setup will be completely fine for those animals. I wouldn't go lighter on the arrows if you decide to change shafts, I would go heavier. The Montecs will work just as fine as well. Good luck and shoot straight.
Rancho Safari CatQuiver. I have a quiver set up for my bow and it doesn't make much noise at all. But, it adds weight on one side especially once adding 5 arrows at 500+ grains per arrow. This could cause some unnecessary lean when shooting. By using a CatQuiver it eliminates the need for side...
Yes they are expensive heads. Lifetime, no frills warranty. However, for myself if I'm paying $10000 for a hunt a $30 broadhead that performs well and can be replaced for free is cheap. Thanks for the giraffe link. I would not have thought a heavier setup would be needed for one.
700 grains is a bit over kill for eland and zebra imo. My setup is 512 grains total at 292 fps and that's around 97 lbs/ ke. I'm not against a heavy arrow, I have a build pushing 800 grains, but I think you could add some needed FPS to your setup by shaving weight versus going too heavy.
IMHO 900 grains is to much. I shoot 81lbs at 512 grains total weight with approx. 97 ft/lbs of kinetic energy. I shoot a 2 blade with bleeder SOLID broadhead then I should have no problems with any animal other than buffalo, hippo, elephant, etc..... If I were going to hunt buffalo Id probably...
That definitely makes sense. I have shot every one of the broadheads you tested and my results varied. The DRT planed on me past 30 yards. The Montecs are PHENOMENAL broadheads but I have had issues with the blood trails they leave (on great shots). I actually like Slick Tricks a lot and have...
Im shocked at the performance of the Solid head. I use these heads and have never had any issues with penetration and flight. Thanks for sharing with everyone.
Hogs will be your cheapest hunt in the USA. You can hunt pronghorn, turkey, whitetail and muleys in good numbers on public land for very little cost. Elk and other larger or less populated game will be more expensive. I would recommend doing an antelope/deer combo hunt if you are willing to fly...
I have to agree with several of these posts. I have seen animals killed with one arrow, yet I have seen animals wounded with several. I have also seen animals killed with one bullet, yet have seen them wounded with many. I believe any weapon is sufficient in the hands of an efficient hunter. We...
The best mounts I have seen are the natural hornback like Bullthrower338 has and a half mount with reeds on a log. As far as harvesting gators, I have used reel and rods and bow and arrows. Be careful of the game laws on using archery equipmetns as they can be different state to state. I've done...
•In 2014, when Mugabe celebrated his 90th birthday, his staff presented him with a one-tonne gold- and diamond-studded stone chair that took two years to make.
•More than 90 cattle were reportedly slaughtered for that bash.
•Mugabe was presented with a set of limited-edition gold coins to mark...
If I had a choice I would stay in Texas! We just moved from Anniston to Montgomery (Deatsville) for work. Im originally from Ozark (20 miles N of Dothan).
I agree with Jeff, I dont believe you lose a connection with the area you grew up hunting. For me it's whitetails, however, Africa sticks with you. There is something about the culture, the territory and the overall mistery to hunting over there that keeps you wanting to go back for more.
Thanks guys! Unfortunately no Im not with Wilson Combat. My hunting in RSA was with Zak Grobler (Sahu Safaris) for plainsgame. Tom Miranda recommended Zak to me and he was a blast to hunt with. I did what most newbies do and harvested impala, warthog, zebra and waterbuck. Im going back in 2016...
I have hunted with a lot of different heads including mechanicals. My favorite is hands down Solid Broadheads. I did shoot Silver Flames on my first trip to Africa and got complete pass thru's on Zebra and Waterbuck (the largest animals I harvested). Solids are what I will be using in Africa...
Hello from Alabama. Finally set up an account after coming here and getting some wonderful information for my first trip to Africa in 2013. Im a serious archery hunter and have hunted in Africa, Canada and several states here in the US. My favorite type hunt method is spot and stalk. Look...
