    Opinions please: Pros/Cons of .375 Ruger vs .375 H&H

Barrel length is a non-factor to me. I hunted in very thick bush on Hammond a week ago and never gave a thought to my barrel length being an issue. I don’t use suppressors or muzzle brakes on any of my guns, so that doesn’t play into my thinking at all. The rifles Congo Forest Safaris has...

    Opinions please: Pros/Cons of .375 Ruger vs .375 H&H

This sums it up nicely. The cold hard truth is that neither kills game such as buffalo any deader than the other. No animal shot with either cartridge’s bullet will know the difference. For me, the H&H was the logical choice and there isn’t a single time I’ve regretted that choice. It’s...

Happy Spring, Big Game Hunters! Looking for Amwell Press books?

I just returned from Zimbabwe a couple days ago, so I’m glad the OP was able to sell these books. I already have all of them myself or would have bought them. It’s a shame that Amwell Press no longer exists, as they published many great books during their run. I’m glad that I was an early...

    A new plains game rifle

You’ve gotten tons of good, even if contradictory, information. Your 375 will be fine. If you want to get a new rifle to go with your 375; a 7x57, 308 or 30-06 would all be fine choices with ammo widely available. 300 Win Mag also. For a future 2-gun safari, any of those would pair nicely...

Serious Safety Concerns for South Africa Hunt

Desert Eagle, consider that more hunters visit South Africa annually than all other African countries combined. I can’t think of the last time I heard of any hunter havbg safety problems in South Africa. Like anywhere else, just be smart about not visiting areas alone, especially in the cities.

    .416 Ruger vs .416 Remington

I shoot a .416 Hoffman, which is essentially the same as the 416 Remington (Hoffman shoulder is very slightly longer, so will shoot 416 Remington ammo as well as Hoffman ammo), so I’ll speak as if I have a Remington chambering. I had my Hoffman built before either the Remington or Ruger were...

What's the most Mambas you have seen on a safari?

I just finished 10 days of chasing buffalo in very thick bush, on Hammond in the Savé Valley Conservancy. Saw exactly one snake, but up close. We were sneaking into a herd of buffalo and I was following Alan Vincent. He was about to duck under some limbs on a bush but suddenly took a quick...

Looks like the CMS shirts are all the rage

I think a great number of people forget or never knew that more dangerous game has probably been killed with a 375 H&H than any other cartridge in history. Many people don’t know that the 375 H&H first came to market in 1912 and was the most common dangerous game cartridge in use for many years...

    Sable and Roan

So you’re saying you’ll provide a hunt, all in, for a gigantic Sable AND gigantic Roan, for an all-in total cost of $8,700? Not counting taxidermy or shipping, of course. I’m highly skeptical about this, given how far below market the price is. Do you untie them before the guy shoots it? I...

    Sable and Roan

I want to add a few thoughts about hunting these animals in wide open, wild areas. First, the hunt matters way more than the size on a truly wild, open area with no fences at all. Sable - there are very few places where one can have a reasonable expectation to see, let alone kill, a sable of...

    Which 375 to take?

Pretty much everyone has advised on the better rifle to take, so I’ll just comment on the scopes. You’ve got too much power for a dangerous game scope. 1-5 or 2-10 would be dramatically better. And above all else, an illuminated dot reticle like Leupold’s FireDot is best of all.

Having tore the rotator cuff in both shoulders, I have some firm thoughts on what you should do.
